Issue with Roon Playlist Improver Quality Upgrade Operation Reverting in Tidal [Investigating]

I came here because I have the same issue as the OP and I found this thread. When I run the improvement for better quality on Tidal playlists, it adds the duplicates, so then I run the remover to improve them, and then it says there are improvements, and so I run the quality improver and rinse and repeat in an endless loop.

Thanks for the details @Jozo_Slejko / @Trevor_Jackson , the team is looking into this.

Hello @Jozo_Slejko /@Trevor_Jackson ,

After discussing this case with the team, we have opted to enable some additional diagnostics for your accounts to see if we can get to the bottom of this behavior. Can I please ask that you reboot your Roon Server apps twice so that the additional debug mode is picked up? Then after the reboots, please reproduce the issue again and share a screenshot of before/after the action, just as this post:

https://community.roonlabs.com/t/tidal-playlist-duplicates-after-upgrade-quality-operation-ref-auq224/280938/4?u=noris

Thanks!

Hello @Matt_Miller ,

We have enabled a special diagnostic mode for your account to try to gather more information surrounding the issue. Can you please restart the Roon Server app twice (from NUC Web UI panel) so that it can pick up this diagnostic mode, perform the actions to trigger the issue again, and provide screenshots of the behavior?

Hi @noris ,

server rebooted twice.

Before the operation:

Operation says completed:

Improve again says Upgrade quality:

So in this last test, the Upgrade quality operation doesn’t change or add anything to the list. The Improve button always shows the same Upgrade quality option. This is a new behaviour in my case.

Thanks @Jozo_Slejko ! I can confirm the new diagnostics came in with the additional logging :+1: . We will review these logs with the team and revert to you once we have more info to share.

I am sorry for the delayed response. I have been away traveling and now I am staying with a friend as my house is being painted. When I get back in the house I will take the requested steps and get back to you.

Sounds good @Matt_Miller, we’ll be on standby for your reply! :+1:

Hi, any updates on this? There’s been a Roon update but this is still happening. Everytime I want to Upgrade Quality songs get duplicated

Before following up on the playlist renaming issue, I wanted to clean up the mess that Playlist Improver made of my playlists. In the process of doing so I came across some very interesting things.

  1. The playlist renaming problem still occurs with certain playlists but not others. So far it appears to occur on playlists copied from other public playlists available on Tidal. To deal with this, I simply create a new playlist and add all of the songs in the problematic list to it.

  2. While cleaning up playlists, I found that Playlist Improver would indicate that there were no unavailable tracks, but the Tidal app would list several missing tracks.

  3. Similarly, Playlist Improver would indicate that there were no duplicate tracks, but the Tidal app would list several duplicates, often the exact same song, artist, and album.

  4. Similarly, Playlist Improver would indicate that there were a number of tracks of better quality available but when I looked at the details, the tracks were already the best available on Tidal, and often, the tracks were the only ones available on Tidal.

I have no confidence in using Roons playlist editing facilities. I don’t know if these issues are unique to the fact that my playlists reside on Tidal. I will continue to do my playlist maintenance in Tidal and work around Room’s ideocracies. You may close this support issue.

Hey @Matt_Miller,

We’re sorry to hear you’re still having issues with the playlist improver. I wanted to follow up and let you know our team is still going to investigate potential causes with this, but progress has remained slow in regards to reproduction in-house.

We’ll go ahead and close the thread for now, but when we have updates to share, we’ll re-open and notify you here. :+1:

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your tremendous demonstration of patience with this issue.

A few follow-up questions for those willing to share:

  1. Can you share the name of the affected public Tidal playlist?

  2. To be clear - this only occurs with playlists that are available in Tidal that you add to Roon?

  3. If not, then what are the specific steps you’ve taken to add this playlist to Roon?

Hi, I’ve been away from this thread but came back after still experiencing this issue. To answer your questions:

  1. Devialet Demo
  2. I’ve only tried it with Tidal Playlists that appear in Roon that are synched automatically. These are playlists that I created originally in Tidal.
  3. I haven’t tried with a new playlist.

I am also experiencing this same behaviour. Disappointing, because this feature was the killer feature for me

Hey @Matt_Miller, as well as @Trevor_Jackson and @Adam_Tait,

Following up on this issue, our team can still not reproduce the behavior in-house.

Looking at the playlists on the Tidal side, are they by chance AI generated?

The playlist that I shared with you is one that I created manually and maintain manually. AI was not part of the process.

The playlists that I had renaming problems with were static lists in Tidal. They were not AI generated. They may have been lists that I imported to Tidal using Soundiiz.
