I’ve tried connecting directly from a cable connected modem to Rockna and Roon asks if I’m online? Please check your internet connection and try again. Every single time I turn it on. No seamless easy acceess. I’ve been a membeer for years and am very tired with the difficulty roon or my system has with it. Kind regards, Brad.

The way to figure out such issues is to simplify, rule out, rebuild. This sounds like a network issue, possibly between ER and Masterclock, so if I were you I’d start trying with a regular 15$ unmanaged switch and see if that changes anything

Thanks. I’m not sure what a 15$ unmanaged switch is though.

Something like this…GS105 | Unmanaged Switch | NETGEAR Support

What @Rugby said. The ER is also an unmanaged switch that has the same function. I’d try replacing the ER and the Masterclock temporarily with the Netgear from Rugby’s post, a standard and super reliable switch. See if it works then, if yes you have the culprit and it’s time to talk to the ER/Masterclock people.

Come to think of it, you could first simply try the ER without the Masterclock and see where that gets you. If the issue still occurs, replace the ER with the Netgear and retry.

I was about to say, that if it takes rebooting the Masterclock, then maybe remove it from the chain and see if the issue persists.

Thanks everyone. Took out the master clock and it worked better-no reboot required, however it still took a fair bit of time for Roon to find Core on Wavedream Net. Any ideas why the Afterdark would cause issues as it is supposed to pair with ER seamlessly. In regards to an unmanaged switch I should mention my modem is an Ignite WiFi Gateway (Gen 2). It is hooked up via coaxial cable. On the back there are 4 ethernet ports. I use one of them to go to the ER. Is an unmanaged switch just adding something unnecessary to the chain or a necessity?

Personally I never use the switch on the router and always add a separate switch after the router to which everything is connected.

No idea. It’s a $700+ switch plus clock that doesn’t work … I would ask the manufacturer.

Depends a bit on the router/modem. The built-in switches are sometimes not great, so if you have more than one device plugged into the ports and lots of traffic between them, it can be better to use a separate proper switch like the Netgear. I.e., use one modem port to connect to a separate switch and plug everything else into that switch.

On the other hand, the built-in switch can be OK as well.

If you have only one device (the ER) plugged into the router/modem (and the other ports unused), then that should normally be fine in any case unless the router/modem is really bad - and you have no other choice but to use one port out of the router/modem, anyway.

A separate switch doesn’t add any trouble, either. This is solved tech that a competent $15 device like the Netgear handles 100% adequately and reliably in a home network without any downsides (and with some upsides for network speed, though none of that should affect sound quality).

As the discovery time is still slow, I would now try with a Netgear switch instead of the ER or plug the Wavedream into the modem directly, without any additional switch, to confirm if the ER is the issue. If the problem goes away, finger points at the ER. If the problem stays, the problem may be the Wavedream most likely (or it could be the modem)
