Describe your network setup

Server is sonicTransporter, server is running on SGC, connected via ethernet to modem. It's running, can access and manage through www.sonicorbiter.com in Chrome on Windows. Remote is Roon app on android phone. Everything has worked for a long time. Now I'm seeing "Looking for your Roon server". Tried entering IP address, doesn't work. Reinstalled Roon app, disconnect and restart modem, nothing works.

Hello @Daniel_Parker ,

Thanks for reaching out. I see that there is also a Windows 11 PC registered to your account, is this the device that you are having issues with?

Since you are using a Windows PC, I would verify that both Roon.exe and RAATServer.exe have been added as exceptions to your Windows firewall.

You can use these instructions to add the exceptions and the executables themselves would be located in your Database Location/Application folder path.

I would also add these exceptions to any Antivirus or other Firewall blocking applications you may have and ensure that you connected to your network via a Private network, not a Public one, see this guide for more information.

Let us know if this helps!

I have a Windows network, both Roon.exe and RAATServer.exe have been added as exceptions to my Windows firewall. My Roon server is not installed on Windows, though, I use sonicTransporter Music Server, Small Green Computer, uses linux. It is directly connected to my modem. My preferred remote is my android phone with the Roon app installed.

The issue I have is that I can no longer connect from the Roon app on my Android phone to the sonicTransporter Roon Music Server. This worked a week or two ago, and it’s worked for years previously. It is not working now. I keep getting “Looking for your Roon server”.

I tried installing Roon client on my Windows 11 PC, and I can connect to the sonicTransporter that way, that works. But this is very inconvenient, I really want to get the Roon app on the android phone to work again. I have no issue connecting to my Windows network with any other android app. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the Roon app, shut down and restarted the modem, shut down and restarted the Roon server, but to no avail.

Whether this makes a difference or not but there is another exception you need to add
Roonappliance.exe.

If I go to “Allow apps to communicate through Windows Defender Firewall”, nothing by the name of Roonappliance.exe appears (roon.exe and RAATServer.exe both appear.) I also tried disabling Windows Defender Firewall altogether, but that made no difference, the Roon app is still “Looking for your Roon server”

Hmm. Maybe Roon have updated it as I see @support did not mention it.
However not very long ago it was required to allow all three.
Let’s see what the experts have to say from your last information post.

Hey @Daniel_Parker,

Thanks for the additional information! Good to know you’re only having issues on the Android device.

Out of curiosity, if you open Roon Arc, do you have any issues there?

We’re not seeing any mobile devices currently tied to your account - can you confirm the mobile device is on the same local subnet as your Roon Server?

Do you have any additional network gear in your chain between your SGC and your primary router?

For the Android device itself - do you have any third-party firewall or security apps currently installed?

If you could, please boot up your server and open Roon - then try to connect using your issue device and share the date / time when you attempt to connect.

Thank you!

This thread is closing due to inactivity/lack of response by the OP. To continue troubleshooting, please reach out in a new tech support request here and our team will merge threads accordingly. Please provide the information @benjamin has requested in his post above to expedite our efforts to troubleshoot.

Specifically, we’ll need to know whether you have ensured your network is operating on a single subnet and whether you have any additional third-party network security installed. Our diagnostic servers still can’t see all of the devices you’ve mentioned in this thread, so we need to verify there’s not something filtering the connection.

Thank you!
