Issues external HDD after updating Mac Mini M1 to new os Sequoia 15.0.1

Hi there. After updating the Mac Mini M1 os I have great problems to recognise the external HDD connected to the Mac. Roon shows me that “this directory appears to be empty. Add some files or edit this folder if it’s been moved”. What could I do? Thanks

Hi @Gianluca_Schiavone,
Thanks for writing in to ask us about this. There have been a number of issues with upgrading to Sequoia recently. This troubleshooting step has helped many other users. Updated: Anyone had a Roon issue with MacOS Sequoia? - #6 by Ross_Frank

It’s everything ok, but the external HDD didn’t recognize in Roon…

Hey @Gianluca_Schiavone,

Can you review the share settings on the Mac side to ensure Roon still has proper access? Here’s more info on that:

I’d also update your Roon Server and Roon remotes to the latest build 1470 and see how things go. Thank you! :raised_hands:

No, it’s the same…

Hey @Gianluca_Schiavone,

Just to triple confirm, have you tried the below steps:

Can you please navigate to macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network , and make sure Roon is allowed. If it is already enabled, toggle it off and on again. Then reboot your Mac, and see if the same issue persists.

I’d also re-enable the proper share settings to refresh the connection post Mac update. :+1:

Nothing…I tried also to reinstall the software but it’s impossible to recognize the external HDD

If you access the HDD in Finder are you able to see the files where you expect them to be? If not try checking out the HDD in Disk Utility.

Yes. I see the hdd through Finder and all its contents. The Mac see the hdd normally

Hello @Gianluca_Schiavone ,

Can you please confirm how the hard drive is formatted? Is it using NTFS? Are you able to try plugging in another USB drive in and check to see if that shows up properly in Roon?

It’s formatted in NTFS but no issues with the previous OS. Yes, I checked with a usb pen drive and it’s ok also formatted in NTFS, Roon sees the usb pen drive

Hi @Gianluca_Schiavone ,

Thanks for the confirmation. Do you have a Windows PC around the house? I wonder if this issue is related to unsafely ejecting the drive, there was a similar issue for Nucleus, please try these instructions:

  • Open Command Prompt on a Windows PC
  • Type chkdsk d: /f (assuming windows has assigned the external drive D)
  • Safely eject the drive from Windows task bar (icon may be hidden in the bottom right)
  • Connect drive again to main Roon Server
  • Verify if issue is resolved

Let us know if this helps!
