@John_Nicolaides welcome to the Community. Roon does not provide phone support, this forum and your posting is the correct approach. I am a fellow user such as yourself, can you explain in more detail what you are experiencing getting Roon to work with your iPhone?
Do you have the Roon Server software installed on a computer device of some sort. If so, you can install the Roon app on your phone. This app can allow your phone to act as a Roon control device and/or a Roon end-point device for playback to the phone or an attached DAC.
You can find the Roon app for your iPhone on the Apple App Store. Installation should be straight forward.
Thank you for your post. We don’t see an active RoonServer associated with your account, which you will need in order to use Roon on your iPhone.
You can set up RoonServer by installing Roon on a separate computer (either a desktop/laptop or standalone music server) and then following the onboarding steps. Start here: Roon - Downloads
If you’re having a more specific issue, then please share as much information as possible, including any error messages presented within Roon.
So, what is the issue? Download Roon to your laptop. Set the Roon Server program to Launch at startup. After you boot your laptop, give it a minute or two for the Roon Server to get going, then click on Roon to launch the Roon client.
@John_Nicolaides, a fellow user here. I am not sure what you mean by:
and
For #1 above, a phone (iPhone or Android) cannot be a used as a Roon Server (the updated term for Roon Core). A computer (PC, Mac, Linux, or Nucleus/RoonOS computer) must be used as the Roon Server, so I am confused by your comment.
For #2 above, and maybe it is related to #1, a new installation of Roon, or really any installation, will not delete any music files. It may delete your personalized Roon settings and playlists, but not the music files themselves. Can you please post a screenshot of what you are seeing?
Per @benjamin’s recommendation, you need to install Roon first on a computer, which sounds like your laptop. Once it is installed there, you can run Roon Server and then run Roon also from the laptop or your iPhone, but the laptop comes first.
My apologies Robert. It has been several years. It was first set up on a desktop.
I have since got a laptop and it sounds like that is the best and only place to set it up now. Let me try setting it up on my laptop and I will get back to you. Thank you for your support.
Yes, that’s the first step, and actually the only necessary step. When you download and install Roon on your laptop, it will install two programs, a Roon server and Roon client. When you do the install, tell it to Launch the Roon server on startup of your laptop. That way the Roon server will always be running in the background.
After you start your laptop, give it a minute or two for the Roon server to launch. Then, click on Roon to open the Roon client. That’s it. Now, if you want to use a phone or tablet as a Roon client or Roon endpoint, you can go to the app store for your device and install Roon.
