Issues with Roon reset, Roon Radio repeats, and Tidal song addition (ref#PBVMBW)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

Tell us what's going on

· I run Roon on an Intel ROCK and stream to a Zen Stream. I only exclusively stream via both Tidal and Qobuz both.

The Problems

1. I have accessed the root /Rock Folder and have deleted everything (all folders on the drive) and have reset Roon a few times only to see my history being pulled back into the new Roon fresh copy. So for example when I did the fresh reset just recently I see all of the recent additions appearing I just don’t want anything coming from the cloud by virtue of me signing in to my Roon account.

2. I also notice that Roon radio keeps giving me basically repeat songs from my own Library whereas I have title and Qobuz both connected the room radio does not give me any new songs it just keeps repeating the things that are I’ve already saved in my library so I can’t have any new discovery done at this time, except in certain instances.

3. I also notice that I cannot add any Tidal songs to Roon library anymore and none show as Recent additions on the home screen. Only Qobuz songs that are added show up I can’t even add Tidal songs when I add it it says it’s I think it says it’s added but then it doesn’t really add those songs in the library at all.

Support Needed

1. I would like you to firstly completely wipe my account back in data whatever stored in the cloud because when I do my reset next time and I do delete all the folders within the SSD in the ROCK I want a fresh instance of room going forward I think this would also help me with the next problem around roon radio.

2. I don’t know how to solve this problem because the room radio needs to give me new songs and not have to repeat all these songs that it is repeating right now I’m hoping that the solution to the first problem will solve this issue as well otherwise you just have to improve how the room radio works.

3. You also need to fix the tidal song edition problems there is not much at all that I can do with title except for stream songs I can’t add any songs to the library or do anything like that so please fix that as well.

Thanks

Tell us about your home network

· It's a Sagecom Gigabit Router supplied by Bell Networks in Canada. There are no issues with the Networking. My Zen Streamer is directly connected to my Router via LAN Cable.

Hey @SHOAIB_AHMED1,

Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report!

We don’t have the ability to do this, but you should be able to perform a manual Roon Server database refresh. The easiest way to do this would be to reset your database via the ROCK webUI. Here’s more info on how to access your webUI:

Clicking ‘Reset’ next to your database will clear all traces of your prior settings and customizations.

After you perform the above, resync your Tidal account, and attempt to reproduce your issue. Share the specific name of the album you attempt to add, but fail. We’ll enable diagnostic mode to take a closer look.

Thank you! :folded_hands:

Hi Benjamin,

I have already done exactly what you mentioned several time and then some, For example, I actually went into the ROCK file folders and deleted all of them and reinstalled everything in addition to several times wiping off Roon Database & Settings via the Web UI. I am pasting the status

I did all this a few days ago and noticed by “Added” tab got reinstated immediately after i logged into Tidal and Qobuz…but only Qobuz adds appeared as you can see below.

I will now again try to add a Tidal song to demonstrate how I try to add that to the Library and how the system shows its added but does not appear in the Added section and does not appear in my library as well.

This is how i add

This is the message I receive after adding which i think is an error message

By the way, I really need help with the Roon Radio bit as well. It does not show new songs often and keep repeating things from my library or just random stuff that i skip but that still keeps coming back in loop. We can do that in diagnostic mode as well.

Hi Guys, are you still looking into this please?

Thanks

Posting again to keep my question alive. Expecting a response please. Thanks

It’s the weekend, they don’t work on weekends

Hi @SHOAIB_AHMED1,

Thanks for the follow-up! Unfortunately, our diagnostic reader wasn’t able to reach back to March 25th to observe any error findings.

That said, we can see you’re now successfully playing the Tidal album you were struggling with prior:

[KEF Speakers] [Enhanced, 24/96 TIDAL FLAC => 24/96] [100% buf] [PLAYING @ 0:13/3:57] At least only we - Choi Yu Ree

Are you still having issues? If you haven’t yet, it may be good to test out using a different DNS server for your Roon Server.

We have seen users have a better experience in the past if they change their Router’s DNS servers from the ISP provided ones to Cloudflare DNS, Quad9 or Google DNS. Can you please give this a try and let me know if it helps?

Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for getting back. My issue was never not being able to play. It was that I cannot add any new Tidal tracks to Library and if you check my above screenshots, the ‘Added’ section on Roon Home only shows Qobuz adds and no Tidal Adds. The next screenshot shows how even though i can play any Tidal song, I cannot add those to my Library and get the error I have highlighted in the middle of the screenshot. Simply put, I cannot add any new Tidal songs to my library in Roon and that is my issue.

My other issue is Roon Radio, it only plays songs (most often) from what is in my library - I remember a time when only net new songs that I have never heard before or were not in my library used to be the only songs I get recommended via Roon Radio - thats no longer the case. Can we fix that somehow as well? I have played a few Roon radios recently and all of those sequence of songs have been of songs I have in my library with almost no new song recommendations - you can check that from back end as well i guess. This is where I am struggling coz i have tried wiping off my ROCK drive multiple times, installed ROCK after flashing drives, multiple resets - nothing helps and the Roon Radio keeps picking songs that are already in my library. Also, even though I skip songs, they still come back as a recommendation in the same Roon radio sequence again and again which is very disappointing.

These are the two issues i am facing that i’d like your help with please.

Thanks

Hey @SHOAIB_AHMED1,

Thanks for the correction! Based on this, we can see from a fresh diagnostic report that the highest offset in the TIDAL favorites/tracks pagination goes up to offset=9998, meaning you have approximately 10,000 tracks in your TIDAL favorites, which is exactly TIDAL’s documented hard limit for favorited tracks.

Roon adds TIDAL content to your library by saving it as a TIDAL favorite, and TIDAL will not accept new favorites once this ceiling is reached.

Navigate to your Queue Page > Click the three dots to the right of your Roon Radio bar - see if you have ‘limit Roon Radio to library’ enabled:

Thank you!

Hey @SHOAIB_AHMED1,

Just circling back on this. Were you able to check whether the TIDAL favorites limit is the blocker here, and also look at the Roon Radio setting to see if “limit Roon Radio to library” is enabled on the Queue page? If you have a moment, let us know what you found or if Roon Radio is still staying mostly inside your library.

Hi thanks for the response. Yes I believe the Tidal 10K track limit was the issue on this.

But Roon Radio seems to be the problem here still. On say Korean/Chinese songs (which I have a lot of in my Library), the Roon Radio plays mostly local library stuff. But if I switch to say Jazz or other genres, the Radio does throw net new songs my way. I have checked and no limit to library button is switched on ever. Is there a way we can put Roon Radio to always suggest new content regardless of the genre being played?

Thanks

Hi @SHOAIB_AHMED1,

Thanks for the update!

Do you play from the same zone when switching between your Korean tracks and Jazz tracks? Sometimes, the ‘limit to Roon library’ setting can be different based on zone settings. I’d triple check this in case you do switch between zones.

There is no way to achieve what you’re after in regard to always suggesting new content, outside of providing thumbs up / thumbs down, and giving Roon Radio ample time to learn your listening habits.

That said, I suggest sharing your idea over in our Feedback #feature request category on community. It’s actively monitored by our product team and helps surface other requests users may want.

Happy listening! :raising_hands:
