Anyone else enjoy they terrifically slow speed of roon in recent days. Particularly from Tidal? If its just me fair enough I will see if my server is playing up but it seems to otherwise be fine.
Hi Gareth - It’s not just you, and it’s not just Tidal. There is another thread on this topic ( Long delays (up to 10 - 30 seconds) for loading albums or start playing tracks (both local and Qobuz) ) and I am sensing a certain unwillingness for Roon to admit that something has gone awry recently, but it must be more than coincidence that suddenly so many folk are experiencing issues. I was just playing an album from my local library, and noticed that skipping to the next track was reproducibly taking 10-12 seconds before the new track would start. I rebooted my ROCK server, and hey presto - suddenly I can skip to the next track in less than one second. Something got broken recently - I am convinced of it.
To be fair I have not rebooted I will give that a try as its unpleasant right now.
Please post your findings - it may encourage Roon to dig deeper for a solution. What I don’t yet know is how long the improved performance will last.
I have local files only but I have not noticed any slowness as of late. Things working well.
Thanks
When I first read the OP I was going to respond that I’m not having any problem but then it occurred to me that I actually have noticed a delay in music starting when I hit the go button. Both streamed and local. It’s not a lot but it is there.
Same problem here. I’ve resorted to using Qobuz connect.
Mine is very slow, takes a while to load the home page and a good while if I change album or search. I’ve had a load of random albums shows up in recent today as well. It’s been very flaky for a few months I think and am now mainly using Qobuz direct or UAPP, which is a shame as a lifetime subscription…
Same issue here but a reboot seemed to do it for me. Very strange.
Agree, something has happened in the few weeks (Roon Slow to present, slider often behind, Tidal albums taking 45 seconds to load) - nothing has changed - I spent a lot of time optimizing my library - thinking it was me - but all the AI tools examining my log say its all working beautiful - although a couple have seen timeouts back to roon……(api wait etc)
I just checked, and speed seems normal here (Qobuz, USA).
Now, the Qobuz “Recently added” mess is another story. ![]()
Rumor has it that for Roon to see these sorts of complaints, this sort of stuff needs to be in Feedback, so I have moved it there.
Hope is not a strategy, but it’s all we have.
Reboot the server , its a Hi Fi component not a data centre I can’t understand why people are so against rebooting, or at least restarting the server software on a NUC/Nucleus
For whatever internal code reason is causing the slowness a reboot normally sorts it out . Then over to Roon to find out why.
For various reasons I reboot almost daily in summer and I never see any of these issues.
I’ve had the same problems with the server becoming unresponsive or very slow.
There shouldn’t be a reliance on having to reboot the server every day just to fix something that was working perfectly well, and now isn’t. Recommending that a client reboots their server every 24 hours because of a memory leak, or poor coding is not something that people are paying money to use, which the majority of us are with Room subscription. It’s not like it’s free software.
Why torture yourself, I know you shouldn’t need to but not doing so makes you miserable and makes you dislike the best software out there
Roon has known about this workaround for years and recommend it themselves. If the fix were simple they would have fixed it, meanwhile for 5 minutes effort every few days you get a trouble free experience
To me it’s a no brainer unless you are into self inflicted misery , just because servers shouldn’t be rebooted ![]()

Hmm…this may be a bit of an exaggeration. I’d suggest it is more “functional” than trouble-free.
I agree that the reboot is a needed element to keep Roon snappy for many users and I don’t have an issue with recommending it. HOWEVER, I do take issue with any implication of criticism or push-back on posters who bring up the problem and may complain about it.
For one thing, this helps everyone know that the issue persists and might help some users know the workaround. For another, and I have heard many people on this forum justify the cost of Roon as “cheap for an audiophile component” but imagine the flaming if one had to disconnect their amp once per day, remove the leads, let it sit, then put it all back together before one could use it.
Finally, I’d say that if Roon really wanted to make this easier on their users, they’d build a way to restart the Roon server from any remote. Roon recommends keeping the server out of the listening room, meaning many people have to go to the basement, the garage, etc., and often their server is headless. So at the very least, Roon could do this. It’s obviously possible and in a sense already done since that is what happens with a software update…just skip the update part! Even better, let users schedule the restart similarly to how we can now schedule metadata updates!
Thats not what is needed , rebooting the server is actually an exaggeration, what is needed is to restart the server software. Anyone running Rock or Nucleus can do this from any browser in one button click
I am not suggesting we let Roon off the hook, far from it, but not doing a simple workaround for an IT engrained “severs run forever” is self inflicted torment .
Shout loud for a scheduled restart at 2 am if that’s the answer but don’t punish yourself for an IT ideal. Thats all I meant.
Between power outages and violent thunder storms my system HAS to be restarted every day or so in summer that’s how I know it leads to a trouble free environment. I have been doing it for 10 yrs with never a technical issue with Roon
Well, technically there is a way, if you set it up. Just for giggles years ago, I setup an Icon on my phone/tablet(s) which is just a link to the server webpage; where you can just stop/start the server without needing to reboot the PC. Or you can reboot the PC.
I do it as part of my daily routine , start PC , turn on coffee machine, by the time my coffee is ready so is Roon
If I don’t have to restart I do it while I’m reading the forum . BUT I am the idle retired ![]()
I’m just saying its not a big deal.
I’m sure it would be simple to add an update to the UI that simply inserts a Cron job to reboot.
I’m still of the mind that a reboot should not be required. I have PICoreplayer on a Pi and that’s not been rebooted in a few months, works fine, doesn’t slow down, etc. And assuming that we all need to be tech savvy is a good way of driving away Users.
