Description of Issue
My iTunes library, inclusive of purchased, ripped and Apple Music acquisitions, is not sync’ing to my Apple devices. I have been working with Apple’s engineers for four months without a resolution. Left out of the dialogue as a possible cause is my Roon setup; iTunes on a MacBook Pro, the iTunes library remotely housed on my NAS and Roon running on a Nucleus. Is it possible that this setup could be the culprit in my sync dysfunction? I know this is a bit out of bounds but I’m grasping at straws at this point. Thank you.
Michael, how is the Roon Nucleus accessing the NAS libary of your iTunes files, and what model of QNAP NAS are you using? Your network configuration also would be helpful to aid in understanding where the issue may be. Additionally, can you provide any more details on what you mean by “working with Apple’s engineers…without a resolution.”?
Many of us have imported iTunes libraries into Roon without any issues, so this may be something with which the community can assist you.
Can you please confirm that you have exported the iTunes Library.XML file from your MacBook Pro and have the XML file saved at the Root of the music folder? If you are using the new Music app to perform the export, please see the details below:
Setting Up Apple Music App (New)
Apple Music is the successor of the iTunes app, and it’s still possible to use Apple Music Playlists with Roon, but the process is a bit different. The XML file needs to be generated by going to Apple Music App → File → Export Library:
Then take this XML file, make sure it’s called Library.xml and put it at the root of your Music folder, like so:
