JBL Control XStream Speakers with Chromecast Audio

I got a great deal on these wireless speakers and since they have Chromecast Audio built in, they were recognized by Roon as expected, allowing me to ditch a squeezebox touch, and Clean up the guest Bedroom a bit

My understanding is that Chromecast Audio supports 24/96 rates, but the setup page for this device in Roon is not allowing me to specify a sampling rate greater than 24/48. Is my assumption about Chromecast Audio’s capabilities in error, or am I missing something in the setup.

Nope. Many non-Google Chromecast devices improperly report their capabilities to Roon. The fix would have to come from the manufacturer. See the following:

Roon only sends >48kHz audio to devices that declare the HI_RES_AUDIO_SUPPORTED flag via the Chromecast SDK. If your device doesn’t report this flag, it’s basically stating that it doesn’t handle anything over 48kHz. If your devices support >48kHz sample rates and don’t report this flag, there is a bug in their implementation of Chromecast.
