Keeping play count when upgrading quality

Hello I was wondering when you upgrade files if the play count kan be kept. e.g. you have an album with MP3 quality and you have FLAC files now. Can you replace the MP3 files with the better quality tracks without losing play count?

This question was popping up, now I see the beta version of the playlist improver.

The playlist improver was released, it’s not in Beta anymore. It’s only for playlists though.

As for keeping the play count when replacing album versions, I believe that @CrystalGipsy has seen the play count carry over if the other version is exactly the same (same number of tracks, same lengths), but unfortunately this isn’t guaranteed. And other metadata (like credit edits or tags) unfortunately don’t carry over at all.

Yes when ever I have streamed an album first before buying it and then purchased it later it’s remembered I have played it even though it was never added to my library. This isn’t just for new releases either. But it’s not guaranteed.

I’ve seen this too, but different versions = different counts.
