Description of Issue
I had no problem with install.
Music played well for a couple of days.
Two issues I noticed immediately:
controls would become frozen even though music was playing
software shutdown was only possible from Task Manager 2 times
Now, I can even get the software to open. The Roon wants to open and I see the border of the software but eventually I see the “Not Responding” message.
I have deleted the software and reinstalled. No luck.
My entire setup is relatively new (4 weeks).
I am only running Edge browser, Office, Steam, Civ 6.
I would like this fixed before I get billed again.
Ben with the support team here, I’m sorry for the delay in getting to your thread! Two immediate things we can check:
Make sure compatibility mode is disabled. You can right-click your Roon app Icon, then left-click on Properties and you’ll see the Compatibility tab. Click that and turn-off. Let me know if you’re still having issues after that.
Test out Roon on a fresh database. Steps to follow below:
Create a Backup of your current database if you don’t have a recent backup
The Combability Mode was never turned on.
I had what I though was a fix…
I removed the software, including “Setting and Databases”
I restarted my system
new install
Everything worked like normal for a day or 2.
Then things got progressively worse, like before.
The first thing I notice is that after starting my first song, the controls become unusable. While I can use the play and pause options, I can’t use any of the left side menu options or the column controls.
Then a day goes by and I also can’t close the software without using Task Manager. I expect the next stage is the software won’t open at all. This was the same progression that led me to post my issue in the first place.
In the intervening time I did have to roll back a Windows update as it was causing a crash when my APC PowerChute was attempting to access the network. I’m, unsure if this would have had any impact nut thought I would mention it.
Thanks for the update! Sorry to hear you’re still running into issues. I’m not able to connect and review your core diagnostic to take a closer look - would you mind reproducing some of the issues you describe above, and then use the directions found here to send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?
It sounds like you’ve reinstalled a fresh version of Roon since rolling back on your update which should patch any potential issues in that realm. We’ll definitely keep this in mind while we troubleshoot though, thank you for sharing.
If you navigate around Roon using a different remote device, do you experience the same issue? Or do things typically function properly?
I just used the Uploader to upload my zip of the logs as instructed.
I only use Roon on my desktop Win PC. I’ve yet to experiment on any other device.
Your software comes highly recommended in AV circles but I am still uncertain about making it the core of my AV system.
Thank you
Thanks for the update. The initial scan of your Roon logs didn’t point us to any specific errors. We did see a handful of corrupt files that could be potentially causing issues, but to the extent that you’re experiencing. Did you refresh your database per my previous reply? This would be good to do regardless. Let me know!
The reason I ask is, we offer a headless version of Roon - Roon Server, that allows you to host the core on your windows machine, but do all the navigation from other remote devices in you local network. Roon Server is a much lighter load and may function better for your step. You can find more info below:
If you could also share the specific date, time as well as track playing, when performance starts to degrade.
