Describe the issue

Large playlists not showing up in CarPlay

I’ve been experiencing an issue with Roon ARC for several versions now (not just the current one), where large playlists no longer appear in the Downloads section.

Roon ARC 1.0.9 Build 299
Roon Server Version 2.0 (build 1460)

Background:

  • I have several playlists with 300+ songs.
  • Some of these playlists have been downloaded in ARC. When a playlist is updated, new songs are automatically downloaded as well.
  • When I use ARC on my iPhone, I can see these large playlists in the Downloads section, and they are correctly displayed by “Date downloaded.”
  • However, when I use ARC with CarPlay in my car, these playlists don’t appear in the Downloads section at all. They are neither listed as recently updated nor found further down the list. It seems that ARC with CarPlay has an issue handling large downloaded playlists.

How can I ensure that these playlists are correctly displayed and accessable in CarPlay?

Hi @Arne,

Are you able to provide either the model of the CarPlay head unit or, if it came factory-installed, the model and year of the vehicle? Please also share the name of an affected playlist.

The team will investigate diagnostics from ARC and attempt to reproduce the issue internally.

CarPlay and Android Auto head units often have hard limits on the number of objects they will download or display in the UI, to disincentivize users from browsing while driving. We will confirm with development whether that is a factor here.

Thanks!

Hi @connor
Many thanks for your reply.
It is a factory installed CarPlay version (Mercedes EQC, 2022, MBUX 2nd gen.)
The name of an affected playlist is: “Best of Classic Metal”
Cheers
Arne

Hey @Arne,

Thanks for sharing those details! While our team takes a closer look, I’m curious - what happens if you attempt to load a playlist with slightly less tracks, say 200, does the same issue occur? What about 100 tracks?

Hi @Arne,

Since we’ve migrated this investigation to the Early Access category, I’m closing this thread for now.
