Large Roon Backup History that I'm worried to clear

Hi there! To create a new topic, please click “Get Help” below and enter your details in the form.

:point_right: [Hi, I’ve got Synology NAS that has reached capacity. It was being used amongst other things for my Roon backup. In trying to resolve the capacity issues, I’ve noticed that the Roon Backup folder is 600GB(!!!) in size.

I’ve entered the Backup setting app and gone to “find backups”. There’s a host of backups listed alpha numerically. I’m at a complete loss as to which to delete.
I’ve attached a couple of example screenshots

That backup folder seems crazily large. Can I get some support as to how to safely delete these backups and also limit the capacity that future backups take please.
Thanks
Stuart

This helps our team gather all the necessary information to solve your issue as quickly as possible. Thank you!

Yep, 600Gig is excessive. You probably could reduce the number of backups in the settings for you backups. (see below)

You can start by seeing this KB article:

You can edit the number of backups saved from winthin Roon on the “Settings\Backups” page.
click on “View” in the “Scheduled Backups” section. then click on the three dots and select “edit”.

Then you can adjust the settings (here are my settings):

You can delete old backups from the “backup Manager” page:
You get there by selecting “Browse” from the “Settings\backups” “find Backups” section:

Then navigate to where your backups are and click “select this folder”:

The “backup manager” should come up and you can “delete” the old backups:

Hi, thanks for your response. One of the issues that I have is that the backups don’t display by date order in the back up manager window. They’re alphanumeric as per my screen shots.

Hi @Stuart_Edwards1 ,

It looks like you’re viewing the files directly in the NAS, to see the Roon backup date created info, you have to use the Roon interface app and navigate to Roon Settings → Backups as per @bearFNF ‘s screenshots. Please only modify the backups using the Roon app itself, do not delete any folders using the file explorer tool as this can cause irreparable damage to the backups. Let us know how this goes and if you have any questions, please just let us know!

Hi both, the files display alphanumerically in the Roon Backup settings window. Those screenshots I shared are from within the App. I’ve just checked my other back up location and it is showing the backup history in the same way i.e. it isn’t showing “Roon Back 12th January” but is instead showing a bunch of alphanumeric folders.
Something isn’t right.

Yup - you are looking at the internal contents of the backups in your file browser. Don’t do this.

You need to use the backup manager in the Roon app as pointed out by @bearFNF and @noris

Hi, I’m viewing the folders within the Roon App. See the screenshots. These are accessed via the settings route, rather than looking directly at my NAS. Thanks for your help but I’m not sure the comment that I am looking at my drive is correct.

It’s not very intuitive but you need to click on select in the bottom right of the screen this will then select the folder you are viewing and show the backups there.

You’ve gone one step too far - you’re looking in the wrong point in the folder hierarchy - you’re looking inside the RoonBackups folder instead of selecting the RoonBackups folder. Browse to the RoonBackups folder and press Select this folder. Like this:
