Latest Roon Remote not allowing login for new installations

Roon Core Machine

Windows 10 running Roon Server

Networking Gear & Setup Details

Connected Audio Devices

USB from server to DAC

Number of Tracks in Library

about 250GB of ripped CDs in WAV

Description of Issue

I installed Roon Server on a NEW Windows based server and updated Roon Remote on my Samsung tablet today. All was working fine with our previous servers.

Roon remote sees mthe Roon Core and when I click on Connect the login screen appears. When I click on the blue login button another screen pops up with an address of:

https://account.roon.app/en/login?id=94af1bcf-b651-483

But then NOTHING happens - the new window just stays blank and it is not possible to enter Roon login details…

Tried resetting router, server, ect many times and it does not work.

I can log into my Roon account on my desktop with no problems - I just can’t get Roon Remote to login with a new Roon Core.

HELP!

Hi @CAD,

Thank you for your post and for your patience.

The most recent diagnostics to reach our server from your account indicate that your Windows 10 RoonServer install is inadvertently on Build 1143, most likely causing a build concurrency issue between your tablet Remote and your Windows machine due to accumulated changes between those builds.

We can illuminate far more if we have system logging from the RoonServer itself - that report has so far failed to reach our servers. At your convenience, are you able to use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?

In the meantime, I recommend entering your router’s web administration and verifying the assigned DNS server. We find Cloudflare DNS, Quad9 or Google DNS to be the most reliable for Roon setups.

We have additional troubleshooting steps, but we want to parse system logs first when available.

Thank you!

Hi Conner,

Thank you so much for your help.

I have uploaded two ZIP files as you have asked.

One is RAATServer Logs.zip and the other is Windows RoonServer Logs.zip

I used my Roon username CAD to upload these to you.

There is no Roon database yet because it is not possible to login to Roon and create one.

If you need any other assistance at all please do not hesistate getting in touch.

Best regards,

Scott

Hi Connor,

I sent those files to you 6 days ago - wondering if you had a chance to look at them?

I have two customers waiting so if I can help in any way please let me know.

Best regards,

Scott

Conner,

I contacted support over 20 days ago and have not received any assistance other than your response 17 days ago.

Today (10/1) I downloaded the latest Windows Roon Server onto a new machine and reinstalled Roon Remote on an Android tablet to ensure that I am using the very latest options.

I get the exact same problem I did 3 weeks ago - Roon Remote will not allow me to sign in.

We now have 2 customers that cannot use their new servers as they have the exact same issue.

I can imagine how busy you are, but I have been polite and patient for a very long time now and have received no help what so ever.

Scott

I tried using Roon Remote on an iPhone and it works!

At first, I used an older version of Roon Remote which worked fine.

I then updated Roon Remote and a new window opens saying:

“RoonMobile” Wants to Use “roonlabs.com” to Sign In. This allows the app and website to share information about you.

I entered my Roon login details, and it works fine.

I believe this Roon Remote issue I have had for the last 3 weeks is only with Android devices with a new Windows Server install. It probably has something to do with this new login process that has recently been implemented.

Hi @CAD,

Thank you for your patience and for your understanding, and please accept our apologies that you did not receive a response in a timely fashion.

Here’s what diagnostics from throughout the symptomatic period have shown:

  1. There are .NET framework exceptions logged on your RoonServer Windows install. I recommend you download this .NET Framework repair tool from Microsoft on this machine to verify that there aren’t deeper system-level issues preventing proper functioning: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135. It’s unclear whether these errors are fatal to Roon, but they are certainly causing difficulty with background services, like requesting the time of day from external servers.

  2. There are two possibilities for the Android remote mismatch:

a) A keypair mismatch as a result of installing a new RoonServer with traces of an extant RoonServer still connected to the Remote install. You can resolve this by fully refreshing your Roon Database:

  • Uninstall Roon Remote on the Android phone
  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon”
  • Rename the “Roon” folder to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Reinstall Roon Remote on the Android phone
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

b) An SSO (single-sign-on) issue caused by browser security features. Try installing a third-party browser on the phone, like Chrome, and changing it to the default. If you haven’t attempted to change the DNS settings on your router as suggested above, this is worth a try, as well.

  1. The iPhone doesn’t show evidence of any keypair or SSO errors, which explains the better performance.

Please let us know if there’s anything we can assist with further and you can expect a more prompt response. Thank you!

Thank you Connor!

I will work on this and get back to you.

Hi Conner,

I still haven’t completely worked this out yet, but right now it’s looking like old versions of iPadOS and Android is the real issue.

I have had 2 customers upgrade their iPadOS and the problem goes away.

From what I can see the initial Roon login for a new Core has changed recently (last year or so). I think older iPad/Tablet versions do not work with this new initial login process.

Thank you,

Scott
