Here is to a very dear lifelong friend who died in early 2023. 😢 We became instant best friends in 1976 and remained so until his death. His friendship literally saved my life more than once. Needless to say, the loss is still painful and I miss him terribly (it’s taken me this long just to be able to post this). ![IMG_1932](https://roon-community-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/original/4X/5/0/d/50d9ab89acbf9c29c3297c9b381b742d422a4bfc.png) ---

Dub Day Afternoon… **Dennis Bovell** (inspired)… Co-Founder of well known 70’s UK reggae band Matumbi & other than recording under his own name, Dennis Bovell is a hugely successful producer working with a who’s who’s of post-punk ‘icons’ and is: **Blackbeard** _I Wah Dub_ (1980) > Along with the Dub Factor Black Uhuru and Johnson’s LKJ in Dub, only Adrian Maxwell Sherwood’s Creation Rebel albums could hold a candle to this piece of dark, twisting, utterly melodic dread reggae. A masterpiece. (allmusic) ![Blackbeard](https://roon-community-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/original/4X/2/3/3/233c33d9fa39765532e5ce6575d0f0971e4665ef.png) As per above review: **Black Uhuru** _The Dub Factor_ (1983) I don’t feel this release to be nearly as engaging as Blackbeard. There are some decent riddims, but I think this release was too caught up in the ‘digital’ era of production that separated it from earlier roots reggae. ![Dub](https://roon-community-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/original/4X/e/d/4/ed48e08cfd465b4a54ea64ac167bd4af24527529.png) I’m a huge fan of LKJ, but alas this is his weakest release, despite what above may have you believe! **Linton Kwesi Johnson** _LKJ in Dub_ (1980) ![LKJ in Dub](https://roon-community-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/original/4X/3/a/f/3afc6693cc55452801a90d257cacf7af947debd2.png) I posted **Creation Rebel** (_Rebel Vibrations_) about two weeks ago, so chose to listen to _Starship Africa_ (1980), because of the recording date & most importantly it’s perhaps their most well regarded album, not to mention I really like it. 😀 ![Creation Rebel](https://roon-community-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/original/4X/4/8/6/486994f7fa07c3637894856fa5935094b6b5b44d.png) ---

Merry new year to all with their sundries. A bit on Tangerine dream this morning with their sessions album. It’s not proper TD I know but it’s decent at this early hour. I love their early work. Their more recent work is a nice trip back to berlin. Their very early albums are good too before they changed style and decided to make money. The hades compilation is highly recommended ---
