The PRS " cosy corner".

I finally decided to pull the trigger on a re-fret for one of the last guitars I still own; a BC Rich Warlock, which is just about to celebrate it’s 40th birthday. it’s been stored in it’s hard case for many years, to the point of now being unplayable at the upper frets. I’m lucky enough to have a former Sam Ash luthier as a neighbor who now works out of his home. I dropped off my daughter’s new guitar for initial setup work and noticed a vintage Gibson Les Paul on his bench getting refretted and saw the quality work this guy was doing. Out of the blue I decided to go home and tell my wife about him and how now I was thinking about having him fix my Warlock and give it to our son. I couldn’t believe she agreed, which was backed up when we had it appraised and realized it would be well worth making playable again. And once the neck was removed the source of the ski jump in the neck was revealed…some credit card material stacked as shims at the heal of the joint as installed by the factory. Anyway, from a piece of wall art to a sweet player again! My son couldn’t believe he was getting it and was so stoked. Made it all worth it to me. Look at those shiny new frets! The fretboard was so dirty it was actually black. I hadn’t seen fresh clean rosewood in decades. So happy I did this!

Can’t beat the warlock story but I put this together today.

Anyone keep an eye on the Franklin Guitar eBay sales? They liquidate of all of fenders, bumps and bruises. I’ve bought a few necks, hardshell case and this blue satin jazzmaster body. You got to keep watching them but every once in awhile you can score a pretty good deal.

Today I decide, to put one of the necks with the body. Not too shabby, eh?

This one is celebrating it’s 40th birthday this year. A 1985 Aria Pro 2 XX Deluxe Zebra Vee. It’s next up for some TLC. It was not purchased by me originally. It was purchased by my late brother, who bought it from Zinno’s Music in Waterbury CT in March 1985. I was there that day though. It was memorable for more than buying the guitar. When we parked behind the building the day we went to go pick it up, the Chinese restaurant next door had trays of deep fried shrimp placed near the rear exit of the building to cool. So as we spent more than a few minutes waiting for my brother to finalize his purchase, 2 of our friends got bored and went outside to wait in the car. By the time we were done and got back to the car we noticed we now mysteriously had a boatload of fried shrimp to eat and so we went to the other side of the guitar store to the liquor store for some beer to celebrate the purchase. Good times!

Anyway, my brother passed away in 1992 and his widow gave me the guitar. it’s been stored away ever since. I opened it last year and noticed that he had replaced the original bridge with some knockoff crap i havent seen before. So time to spend some of the hotter days inside and mess around with it this summer.

Finally acquired my Holy Grail PRS.
Been looking for this one for a long time.
More sparkle than a Bass Boat Glitter Bomb

Not familar with this PRS. Could you explain?

Back in 96 PRS did a special run of what they termed Holoflake, basically think Bass Boat type metal flake finish.
Five colours.
Gold, Silver, Red, Blue, Green.

Reportedly just 5 of each colour in set neck and 5 of each colour in bolt on neck.
So yes fairly rare beasts if those figures are correct.

Thank you. I recall around that time that Fender released a similar Strat which I intended to buy but never did.

I would like a (non-Murphy aged) `59 Les Paul; the Paul Kossoff model. Unfortunately, all that are listed are Murphy aged.

I have a PRS Dragon III. I have two of them, but one is a limited run with McCarty Pickups. No one ever mentions that one.

There are a lot of nice oddball rare releases that do not get much discussion.
I first set eyes on a Holoflake around three years ago but it has taken this long to acquire one as most people were asking what I deemed silly money for them.
It does have original Dragon 1 pups in it as well.

My first PRS was from a now-defunct guitar store. That store sat next to a vintage guitar store. When I bought the PRS, the former store told me that the latter had just sold a guitar to Slash for $80k. It was hard to conceive that someone would/could pay $80k for a guitar. Then I ran into a guy on a car forum who had bought a `59 Les Paul, mint, for $175k and he told me that it would someday be worth quite a lot more. I doubted that, but then, again, I knew that this thing called YouTube would never catch on.

BTW, my first two PRS, I believe, came from a NAMM show as one-offs in ~1989, one is lacewood and the other bubinga …I think.

Well now, not posted a new guitar in a minute

A little history first.
Back in the late eighties PRS did a finish they called multi-metal. It was spectacular but actually quite fragile and easily damaged. Prime examples are selling for big money.

In 2018 PRS brought the finish back( or an approximation of it) on SE Standard 24 only. They called it Multifoil this time around.
Not quite sure of exact numbers but it was low.
Well less talk and let’s have some action.

It’s as difficult to photograph as the Holoflake guitar unfortunately and not yet got pictures that do it justice.

That is an incredible find, and I am not at all familiar with it. Are you tending to find these on Reverb?
