My music library is stored on a powered USB hard drive which is connected to a recent version iMac desktop. My music flac files are stored in a couple of master folders (CD and hi-res). Can the same folder be shared and utilized by both Roon, and Sonos, or should separate locations be established? Thanks.

I use the same files for Roon & Sonos, no problem at all. I guess it is important that the files are in watched folders and not organised folders though.
