Describe the issue

My library info doesnt load from a backup

Describe your network setup

Im using a linksys wrt3200 router and a Cisco switch before the Roon Rock Mini pc

Hello @kristofvadnai,

Thanks for reaching out — we’ll be happy to help.

To better understand why your library isn’t loading from the backup, could you please share a bit more information?

  • What exactly happens when you try to restore the backup? (Any error message? Does it stop at a certain point?)
  • Where is the backup stored? (USB drive, NAS, internal storage, network share, etc.)
  • What is the approximate size of the backup?
  • Which device are you restoring onto — your ROCK Mini PC, or another machine?
  • When was the last time this backup successfully restored, if ever?
With this information, we’ll be able to guide you more precisely.

Thank you!

When I do the restore it loads without hiccups. I tried saving and loading the backup to a shared folder from a Windows Pc and on a pendrive plugged into the Rock Mini pc, but had the same results.
When I checked the backup folder after saving it grew about 4-500 megabytes larger. I’m trying to restore onto the Rock Mini pc. I never did a restoration before, and I only ever made a backup recently after sorting out every album and playlist in my Roon.

Hello @kristofvadnai ,

We have the below guide regarding migrating to a new Roon Server, have you by any chance seen this yet?

Can you please confirm the issue if the backup is restoring properly? Note that it is best for Roon to not see two copies of the same media files, as it will consider duplicate media files as “new” and not have any previous metadata associated with it. Mentioning this in case this is the issue you are running into.

I now did a database reset and a restoration again following the article. Signed in to the new account only after making the restoration (which was “succesful”). Same results. The library is stock.
Im only caring for my library settings for Tidal and Qobuz btw.

Hello @kristofvadnai,

Thank you for the clarification — this explains the behavior you’re seeing.

Roon databases are account-bound.
A backup created under one Roon account cannot be restored and used under a different Roon account.

This means:

  • If your backup was created while you were logged in with Account A,
  • And you are now restoring it while logged in with Account B,

→ The restoration will appear “successful”, but your library will load as empty/default, because the database does not belong to the new account.

Hello @kristofvadnai

Just checking in to see if you had a chance to review our last message.
Whenever you’re ready, feel free to share an update — we’re here and happy to continue troubleshooting.

Thanks!

Hi
Yes I read it. Theres nothing I can do then

Hello @kristofvadnai ,

Just to confirm, you are using a new email address for the new account? We can loop in our accounts team to see if they can do anything regarding merging the accounts, let us know if you’d like for us to do that. Please don’t provide your other email address quite yet, as this is a public forum and this would need to be convereted to a private message thread first.
