Hi @cbcomp1,
Thanks for reaching out to us for help with this issue. Did the guide @BlackJack linked to help resolve your issue? If not let us know what you’re specifically having trouble loading and we can investigate further.
Yes I had already tried that 3 times and it still doesn’t work.
I changed my network switch, which has to be connected to a power conditioner. As soon as I switched the power off, I started getting this problem.
Firstly it came up with an error “There was an issue loading your database, please load a backup” . I tried that twice and the backup would load, it would then say “reconnect” which I did but then straight back to “there was an issue loading your database”
I went to the help channels and saw the fix where you stop the server, change the name of the database fold to “old” restart the server etc but it still won’t work. I note when I do all this, no new folder is created in the library “roon database”, all that is there is “room database_old”. After all the steps, when I restart roon it just finds my original Neucleus (there is no other database to connect to, and gives the
there was a problem loading your database message
Sorry, i made a mistake in the above description, the folder I changed the name to is “Roon server”, (not roon database) which is now named “roon server_old”. After completing all the steps, I note when I go back to the library, roon is not creating a new “roon server” folder, all that is there is the renamed “roon server_old”
It could be the case, unfortunately, that the backup saved was also corrupt, which is quite rare. Do you have an even older backup you could try?
Did you access the database of your Nucleus specifically to do this? I see you have a mac studio as well, and it’s easy to get database locations confused during this process. Here’s a step by step specifically for your Nucleus:
Hi Benjamin
Unfortunately, for me, the instructions are not very clear as to which folder I rename
When I go into finder, and library, I find 2 folders for Roon. 1 is named “Roon” the other “Roon server”. It is this folder “RoonServer” that I have tried renaming to “RoonServer_old”.
But I noticed in the instructions it says go into the folder. the contents of both folders are the same, inside each are 5 folders Cache, Database, Logs, Settings, Temp. If I go into the “database” folder in each there are another 5 folders Cache, Core, CX, Orbit and Registry
Could you clarify exactly which folder I change the name of?
As Ive said, if I just change the name of the “Roonserver” folder, as per your instructions, it doesn’t work
Also, ive tried loading 6 different backups and none work, always straight back to "there was an issue with your library, please load a backup’.
This is very frustrating as I’ve used roon for over 10 yrs and only once had a similar problem. (once again when there was a power issue)
Im pretty sure that my backups are good as they go back 2 months, well before I had these issues. Can I just uninstall roon, reinstall it and then load a backup?
As I’ve needed to get Roon working urgently (I’m trialling some audio gear this weekend), I installed Roon on my Mac Studio, and reloaded the latest backup. Everything is working fine, which shows the backup files are not corrupt.
So I still need to get the nucleus working again. Is there a way of resetting the Nucleus back to factory settings and then reloading the backup file, surely this will work?
Also, how do I now log back into the Nucleus, as now when I start roon it goes straight to the server I’ve setup on my mac with no option to connect to the nucleus? (I had to deauthorise the Nucleus to make my Mac Studio the new server)
It sounds like you’re refreshing the Roon Server database on your Mac, not your Nucleus. Per the instructions I’ve listed above:
Using a Mac, open Finder and navigate to smb://NUCLEUSPLUS/Data and use Guest as the username and password. You should then see the RoonServer folder. Alternatively, you can also copy smb://NUCLEUSPLUS/Data and paste it into Spotlight and select the Finder result to prompt connection.
This is great news!
Yes, by renaming your Roon Server folder as mentioned above - but you’ll need to rename the Nucleus database folder, not your Mac database folder.
Navigate to Roon Settings> x Disconnect > This will take you to your list of optional Roon Servers, where you should be able to see your Nucleus listed as an option.
Hi Daniel
Thanks for your help
I have fixed everything. Could I make a suggestion that you change the instructions on how to fix this problem to include the “smb://NUCLEUSPLUS/Data” path. the current instructions send you to the Roon server folder on your computer, and of course this doesn’t work. If it was clear of how to access the folder on the nucleus, as per your instructions above, I would have saved hours in mucking around and having to set up a new server on my mac just to get Roon working again.
Anyway, thanks for your help, I now have everything working properly again
