Describe the issue

Hello, my music is stored on a Synology D620 slim. The library sorting by date added doesn't work at all, when I add new albums they often appear in the middle rather than at the beginning

Describe your network setup

Wired connection between the computer where Roon is installed and the NAS

I suppose you mean sorting in My Albums and by release date? What is your date setting in Roon settings > General, is it „release date“ or „original release date“?

And please post example screenshots of the incorrect sort results and of the affected albums. The currently available information is not enough, we can’t guess.

Thanks, yes that’s what I mean. The date setting is “release date”. Happy to show screenshots but they won’t show the date I added the albums to the library so it won’t really show the issue. It doesn’t happen on some albums but on all : each time I add a new album the whole order of all albums changes instead of just adding the latest one

But the albums themselves show both the release date and the original release date, so if you were to post a screenshot of the sort result and one of the last correct and first incorrect album, someone might be able to get an idea. As it is now, it’s like guessing a color by reading a description

Here’s my library sorted by “date added” after a new scan. The 1st album that appears has an original release date in 1993 and was added to my library 2 months ago while the albums on the second line were added last week

OK, thanks, I clearly had a misunderstanding here:

But now I see that you are sorting by date added. You had said so in your initial post but I missed that. Of course, the release dates have nothing to do with date added

I have no idea what might be messing with your „date added“, sorry

Hi @Arnaud_de_Fontgallan ,

Did you by any chance make any metadata edits to the albums in the first row? Trying this sort on my end appears to have the albums ordered as expected. Does your Roon → Home → Recently Added show the same data as your screenshot?

I didn’t make any change to the albums after importing them. It seems that each time I do a rescan, it considers that some albums have just been added

Also I get the same issue when I go to Roon → home → recently added

Hi @Arnaud_de_Fontgallan,

Does this mean that Roon goes through the process of reidentifying the tracks that had already been added? If you go to Roon Settings → Library and click clean up library how many songs are listed under associated with disabled storage locations?

Replying to @Daniel’s last message (from the Roon support team), 0 songs are listed under associated with disabled storage locations? So the problem comes from somewhere else. It just gets worse each time I add music as the “date added” sorting is more and more irrelevant

Hi @Arnaud_de_Fontgallan,

Please try the following test at your convenience:

  • Make a Backup of your current RoonServer Database
  • Exit out of RoonServer
  • Navigate to your RoonServer’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
  • Disconnect the storage location hosting your Roon local library
  • Reinstall the RoonServer App from our Downloads Page to generate a new RoonServer folder
  • On the Roon Remotes, press “Use another Roon Server” and connect to the new database

Do the issues persist on a fresh database?

  • Add local storage location back and restore your Backup in Roon.

Do the issues persist after restoring the Backup of the database?

Thank you for your ongoing patience.

Many thanks, i’ve followed the steps you recommend a removed some folders from my library. Once everything was done i added them back and did a manual re-scan. The albums I added later appear at the top of the list when i sort by “date added” so it seems to wok. I guess the previous sorting can’t be recovered or is there a way to get it back ?
Thanks

Hi @Arnaud_de_Fontgallan ,

Glad to hear that the procedure worked!

Unless you have a Roon Backup from when it was properly sorted, there’s not much else that you can try. If you plan to try a backup, please ensure you create a fresh snapshot of the current one, before trying to load an older one.
