Late last autumn I bought a Klimax DS first generation with exakt power supply. I had a Esoteric K-07 first gen and I had to use a Windows computer to that. The reason was that the dac, no matter how good it was, had compability issues with streamers if I wanted to use async USB. So I sold it.
The sound compared with the Klimax DS was quite good. Open and airy. But the Klimax DS was just so much easier to live with. No extra device was needed. Just hook it up with the amp and network and just go. It really was that easy. Well. I had to update it first, the previous owner had not done it in a while, and I had to do the upgrade through the computer first, before the Linn app on the Ipad and phone recognized it and I could do more resent updates through the app instead. I had a problem with configuring the player to. But all minor issues was resolved with the updates of the software.
I am satisfied with the stability and sound. But Linn have a campaign with better prices on spare parts and upgrades and to make a long story short, now my DS is on its way to Scotland for a Organik/Utopik update.
To all of you that have done this update on your Klimax DS/DSM, what is your thoughts about it? Was it worth the money?
I do love the design on the older Klimax DS/DSM. It is a work of art and with the update I have an excellent streamer too.As I understand it my older unit was Roon tested but when I get it back it is Roon ready.
