I’ve been using ListenBrainz with my Roon Server (running on Ubuntu server) and it was working perfectly until this week. “Now Playing” updates still appear correctly on my ListenBrainz profile, but actual scrobbles have stopped being recorded. My ListenBrainz dashboard only shows three listens from Monday, even though I’ve been listening to music every day since. I’ve tried switching endpoints (Desktop dac, rpi4 running ropieee, NAS preamp, etc.) and they all show “Now Playing”, but none of them generate scrobbles. I’ve also disconnected and re‑entered my ListenBrainz user token in Roon, but the problem persists. It feels like Roon is authenticating but not submitting the listen events. And just to be clear, I only started last week, so it working fine for the first week, and then I started getting issues.
Has anyone seen this behaviour before or knows what might cause scrobbles to stop while “Now Playing” still works?
I have restarted the roon server software earlier. Good shout on pihole, which I do run with unbound too. I think I may have done a pihole update recently. Did you whitelist a domain to get it working, do you remember which domain? I checked for listenbrainz.org, api.listenbrainz.org, musicbrainz.org. I can see all three being allowed and not blocked. I added to whitelist anyway.
I used last.fm and have it linked up to listenbrainz, but that is what I did when I saw some issues after adding a blocklist sometime ago.
Have a look at the Pihole console and see if anything is getting blocked and maybe allow anything from you Roon server as a test and see if that works. These DNS blockers are great until they do not work or they block a family member who has installed some random app (usually my wife ).
BTW have you tried Cloudflare DNS with your Pihole, I set that up about 18 months ago and it sends out all DNS requests encrypted and has worked perfectly since I put it in place.
Something I’ve noticed is that the ListenBrainz Your Stats page does not update: either force a refresh or jump back to Listens. It’s not immediately updated, either, as noted by others.
I am still seeing the same thing, I waited for a week to see if anything updated. My last scrobbles are from a week ago. My live listens are still showing up. But nothing is being retained or at least, displayed in the stats.
Are anyone’s else scrobbles not showing in stats? Is there anyway to force it? Reading around suggests they only update periodically, but a week seems too long based on my reading.
If this is happening, then Roon is successfully scribbling to ListenBrainz. I would check that the web browser isn’t preventing the data being display (or VPN or Ad blocker.) If you can’t resolve this, contact ListenBrainz. Note that playing history takes a few days to display after opening an account.
