Listening Habits

Morning,

Like many others my listening room is also the family room / lounge. To sit in the sweet spot all the time requires me to have one speaker closer to the side wall than I’d like. I can place the speakers in a better position but then for daily listening I’d be off axis quite a bit. For real good sessions I’d have the ability to move my chair over right into the sweet spot as a compromise for better speaker placement.

Do you sit in the sweet spot all the time while listening? Or are you happy to fill the room with great sound and for those special days jiggle the furniture a little?

Be happy to know how you guys would deal with it.

Cheers

Sweet spot is on my couch and I use it for analytic listening, but mostly I’m cooking or gaming or doing chores and just filling the room.

You could use DIRAC or such like and ‘move’ the sweet spot.

90% out of a day I sit @ computer or desk doing something. Music searching happens there. From this sitting point I have to dsp 0.8 meters delay and -1.2 db for the right speaker (the one that is close to me). It doesn’t sound like the sweet spot but it is better than without DSP.
10% in the sweet spot DSP just to correct the base

In the past, I’ve put my speakers on PTFE or other furniture sliders - made it easy to slide them into focus position, and back when wanted out of the way

I’m continually amazed at the wonderful systems we see on here that are fundamentally compromised by bad speaker placement - when the solution is so simple

I’m lucky to have a dedicated listening room now, but I still have my Quads on PTFE sliders as it makes it very easy to tweak the angles and distances, despite them being 41kg and 1.4m tall

At about 4am I’m at my computer desk till mid morning. Serious 2 channel and exploration along with just background listening.

Mid afternoon I’m in my Home Theater listening to Tidal Atmos or MQA if I am listing to music. Roon really needs to implement Atmos. It is for real and it is here to stay.

Practically every day, music is there since I was very young. I’m at a point in my life where I have quailty sound systems all along knowing from where I started out and where I am now with reguard to fidelity.

Roon has been a eye opening Listening Habit for me and what music is all about in a all inclusive format that is just not duplicated in any other system setup that I can find.

I only have the family room, so my oversized couch is long enough that there is sweet spot for serious listening, but the majority of the time I just have the house filled with music while doing other things.

Headphones - always in the sweet spot .

For general listening BT speakers so it doesn’t matter

SWMBO hates 70’s Rock and Harpsichord - she bought me a nice pair of headphones :smiling_imp:
