Live Radio keeps stopping when streamed to Wiim Ultra

Hi,

Whenever I stream live radio (Does this on every radio station I’ve tried) to my Wiim Ultra from my Iphone it keeps stopping (after a few minutes) and I have to open the app and press play again.

I’m using an iphone to with Roon Version 2.48 (build 1516) and roon server 2.48 (build 1517)

This used to work fine up until a couple of weeks ago and wonder if something changed.

I’ve gone ahead and enabled diagnostics mode for your account and noticed that buffering is stuck at 7% for Radio X: Manchester:

04/08 09:11:08 Trace: [.NET ThreadPool Worker] [WiiM Ultra-E33E] [LowQuality, 24/44 MP3 => 24/44] [7% buf] [PLAYING @ 1:52] Radio X: Manchester

This indicates that there may be an issue with the connection to that specific radio station.

Could you please confirm if this issue only occurs with Radio X: Manchester, or are other stations affected as well?

Hi vadim,

It is also happening with BBC Radio 1 Dance, although I do mainly listen to Radio X: Manchester.

I’ve just started playing BBC Radio 1 Dance and it has stopped in the last few minutes.

Hello @Mark_306 ,

We have seen users have a better experience in the past if they change their Router’s DNS servers from the ISP provided ones to Cloudflare DNS, Quad9 or Google DNS. Can you please give this a try and let me know if it helps? Thanks!

That could be a good call as I was using cloudfare until recently so I’ve changed it back to cloudfare. Will keep you posted.

Sounds good! It’d also be good to know how your Wiim is connected to your network / audio devices - establishing a direct ethernet connection to the Wiim may be helpful as well. :+1:

WIFI, I get what you’re saying but it’s bit an easy option to use ethernet, I suppose the whole point of WIFI is convenience so this should just work.

I completely understand that Wi-Fi is more convenient, but in our experience, users often see significantly better stability and performance when using a wired ethernet connection. Would you be open to testing with ethernet to see if there’s any improvement?

Also, were there any changes after switching back to Cloudflare? Let us know—we’re here to help troubleshoot further if needed!
