Hi all. I often have a need to edit tags of the currently playing song, for example, if you want to change the rating/stars or fix some tags etc.
As Roon doesn’t offer any editing capabilities and relies on external editors, I’m wondering if everyone in the community has ever come across or developed a methodology to quickly open the editor of choice (I’m on the Mac specifically)
Currently to edit the current song without you have to open your music editor, scroll, and find the actual file, and then edit ( I know, first world problems… :))
Using a tablet or desktop client you can edit within Roon and this is then saved to your Roon database only, not to the files themselves.
Roon leaves your files untouched. So if you use your local files with another software these edits don’t do anything.
To edit a song that’s playing or just played, access your queue screen and tap on the 3 dots to the right of the screen on the same line of the track in question.
thx @Mr.Flibble , im actually more interested on a way to edit the id3/m4a tags on a mac (mainly for rating purposes). i know roon does not touch the files so im looking for a way (script) to get somehow open the current playing track in the editor
yes thats super helpfull, yet it seems to be avilable only on the machine where the core is located, in my use case i connect to the core (on a mac mini) from my mac studio and then the option to open in finder is gone
I don’t know anything about Mac’s, But if that link is not usable in anyway, that does on the face of it appear to be unintended behaviour. I would raise a bug report and/or support ticket. Roon will not deal with it in the software discussion thread.
my workaround - - my library is also managed by JRiver and hence JRemote , so if I spot an error I can correct in JRemote (on the same iPad as Roon Remote) which updates JRiver and hence the file tag
I then run a sync from my main PC back to the NUC ROCK
my use case is more on the mac, and i do have a Jriver license as well (still love that app that ive been using for close to 22 years..yet its gotten so old.. :))
im wondering if one can script a hotkey to auto open jriver with the current playing track/album thats playin on roon…i have zero programming skills but maybe ill consult AI…
