Describe the issue

Roon has been working perfectly until two days ago. High quality music from both my library and Tidal appear as lossy (orange) while the output (Sonos) is blue. Roon Arc in the same network doesn’t have this issue. Same album plays as high quality. I have reinstalled the Roon app, no result. I have rebooted router, no result.

Describe your network setup

Verizon Fios router with Oraknis. Sonos 5 speakers connected via wifi.

The source files are AAC; that’s what you are playing. Roon isn’t doing anything to the signal path except volume levelling.

Please share a screenshot of the album; this will show the album format. Alternatively, a screenshot of the music folder and files.

Hi @Jos_Stumpe,

Please see the above response. In the example you shared, the source content is 44.1kHz. Please attempt to play content at a higher sample rate and bit depth and share a screenshot of the Signal Path here.

Please also verify in the Device Setup for the affected Zone that you’re not applying any automatic downsampling.

This is a FLAC file and Roon turns it into a AAC. This also happens with Tidal.

The issue started two days ago, before it never happened. I didn’t change anything in settings.
Roon ARC plays the same album as high quality.

Something odd here - that track “Serafini al nostro canto…” does not appear on my Qobuz version of that album.

I assume that this is a local album, not streamed. Can you click the “3 dots” menu by the track and post a screenshot of the File info screen? e.g. like this:

OK, thanks - it’s the first track of that album. Indeed it shows as being FLAC format but the source claims it is AAC for you. Very odd.

Here, it’s FLAC all the way…

Hi @Jos_Stumpe,
I agree with @Geoff_Coupe it is very odd that a FLAC file is being treated as AAC. One thing I’d like to be sure of is that you are playing the version of the album that has FLAC files. I’ve seen other threads where users had similar symptoms and that was the answer. Additionally please make sure your Tidal settings are set to the highest quality for when this issue occurs with Tidal.

If you can confirm that you are playing the FLAC version I will convert this case into a ticket with our development team to perform a deeper investigation of this problem.

I have a Tidal subscription for the highest quality. When I started with Roon end of last year it worked fine, both with Tidal and my library. Most files in my library are cd’s I digitalized to Flac files. The others are Apple files. I could play with Roon directly to my Sonos speakers (living room). Last week suddenly that was disrupted. Roon changed a flac file into aac and kept searching for output although the Living Room icon was showing it was playing music. At the moment I can play music via Roon on my iPad and Airplay to my Sonos speakers. but this gets sometimes disrupted. See photo.

Hi @Jos_Stumpe,

Can you please provide our team with an example of an AAC file in your local library that Roon is displaying as FLAC in Signal Path?

In diagnostics, we see playback arrested on this AAC track:
La clemenza di Tito, opera in 3 acts, Wq. 16: Tremo fra' dubbi miei - Cecilia Bartoli / Bernhard Forck: Berlin Academy For Early Music / Bernhard Forck / Academy for Ancient Music Berlin / Christoph Willibald Gluck

Is that an example of what you’re describing?

In any case, upload a few offending files to our uploader here. If we can reproduce the issue internally, we should isolate what’s causing the problem.

Thanks!
