Lost first connection to dac

Hi, I get the lost connection error every 1st time I press play after booting. Here’s what happens:

  • Roon server is on wired mac Mini.
  • I boot the wired Raspberry Pi that is connected to a Topping E50.
  • In the Roon client the E50 appears as destination.
  • Press play on a track, album, …
  • Roon immediately says the connection is lost and the E50 disappears from the list.
  • A few seconds later the E50 reappears automatically.
  • I press play again and all is well until I power down the Raspberry Pi.

After that initial error there is absolutely no issue with playback. No drops, no stuttering, …

This is of course not a major issue, but I’m curious what could be the reason.

I’ve read several similar topics here, but they are mostly about dropped connection during playback etc, which I believe is a different scenario.

Thanks

Hi @Ovan,

Thank you for the post. The team can activate diagnostic logging and investigate why RoonServer is losing the Zone.

To pinpoint the event in logs, we’d require you to submit an approximate timestamp of the last dropout, or the name of the track you attempted to play. Let us know when you’ve next reproduced and we’ll proceed from there.

Thank you, I’ll do that. Meanwhile I’ve checked that the dac has the latest firmware and disabled auto-standby, just to make sure that is not the reason.

Hi, it happened today at 13h30 cet, when starting playing this track: Ø-230802-yh4Oi1Cg

ps: Disabling the auto-standby on the dac had the opposite effect as the RPi didn’t find the dac (it apparently disables auto power on). Back to previous settings.
I also set the delay time in Roon to allow for any sample rate changes, but didn’t help as well.

Same today 15h12 cet, this song

Hi @Ovan,

Thanks for the timestamps! We’re unfortunately not able to connect to your Roon Server to enable diagnostic mode. Could you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?
