Lost metadata and playlists after restoring backup to Nucleus One (ref#0GFIE0)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

Music won’t play or issues with my library

· Trouble creating or restoring backups

Tell us what's going on

· I have restored a back up of my previous Roon server (a Sonictransport i5) to a new Roon Nucleus One (Operating software 2.1, Server software version 2.66). The music files were loaded to the Nucleus One from a back up SSD drive (a Samsung Portable T5) and the library file data backup were loaded from the last back-up made on Dropbox before a disk failure on my Sonictransport i5 server.

I can access all my local files but much of the organisation of these files within Roon has been lost e.g. all of the albums I classified as ‘favourites’ are no longer classified as such; also lost are all of the changes I have made to album artwork and display; grouping together separated discs within albums. Previously set-up playlists still exist but all the local files cannot be located from the play list itself saying the tracks are ‘unavailable’. But when I search separately on the local disk to which these playlist tracks refer, I can find them and play them from the album, therefore, they are not missing from the SSD.

I have read various posts and now realise I should have perhaps loaded the Roon library back-up before transferring the local music files to the Nucleus One’s SSD which may have caused this problem.

I have re-booted the server this morning as it was struggling to connect. It has been fine since but still doesn’t show any of my previous library organisation as previously mentioned.

Hello @Richard_Britton ,

Thanks for reaching out.

Yes, this is precisely what could have caused the issue, if Roon saw two copies of the media files at the same time, it would treat the duplicate as a “new” file. Please see the following guides:

As for next steps, I would ensure that Roon is only seeing exactly one copy of the media files, and try to restore the backup again. Let us know if that helps!

Thanks for your help but I still can’t figure this out. The instructions relate to migrating from one server to another but my previous server (the Sonictransorter i5) died so I am loading the local music files from a back-up SSD (Samsung T5). Since I have already transferred the music files to the Nucleus One internal SSD do I have to delete them and re-load them again? I have tried disabling the storage folder that points to the internal SSD, then re-loading the Dropbox Roon library back-up file (using the last one backed up from my Sonictransporter server) but I have the same problem.

If the server is seeing two different storage locations then under storage you should see the working New location and a storage location that has the a message about not being available. In that message you should see a text option (which is clickable) to “edit this folder”, like below…

If this is the case, you want to disable the current new storage location and then edit the path of the old location to new location. This should after Roon is done re-syncing, remove the info from the duplicated drive and restore the data associated with the original storage location.

It might help to post a picture of storage (assuming you did not delete any locations).

OK thanks, seems like this is the case as per this screen grab, will try as instructed

I click on ‘edit this folder’ but no music folder options appear for me to navigate to

Looking at the Nucleus from my Mac, all the music is in ‘Internal Storage’

Worked it out, and now up and running by adding a new network share to the Nucleus One. Thanks very much for your help.
