Lots of crackling since 1.7 installed

Ok,

I’ve been having nothing but issues with the latest software. I believe this is software related also.

I’m getting quite a bit of “Crackling” on certain tracks some I get every time. I used to hear them infrequently, in addition to a few other issues since 1.7 loaded, it’s way worse.

Salk Streamer - Linux streamplayer 5.0.13-arch1-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun May 5 18:05:41 UTC 2019 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Roon Version 1.7, build 528

I’ve tried everything. Happens on streaming tracks, and on ripped tracks. I had one ripped track it would do it on the same spot every time. I’ve used various combinations of amps and pre-amps, it’s always there.

Checked the CD to make sure it wasn’t a bad rip - worked fine. Blew away file on Salk Hard Drive, re-ripped, re-loaded - still there.

Tried new USB cable - still there

Then, pulled Roon out of the equation (used salk as a network drive, and set the OPPO DAC to stream (no Roon) - clean as can be.

Tried a few streaming tracks on the Oppo along that did it with Roon in the equation - also clean without Roon.

So… it’s one of two things.

Roon, or something on the USB outputs of the streamer (pretty unlikely).

Help.

Appears I have solved my issue. So, I had my output volume from my salk streamer set to “fixed” I changed to variable and lowered the output volume a tad to my DAC (Oppo).

Cleaned it up, the output volume must have been really maxed when set to fixed, and essentially was clipping at the DAC.

Hi @Douglas_Peot,

Glad to hear you were able to locate the issue as being the Volume Control type!
