Lumin Luxman Roon Only Mode / Esoteric TEAC RAAT Mode

After having my Lumin U1Mini for two years (and using Roon with it) - I recently discovered this #ROONONLY optimization. I have been listening to track after track for the last 2 days, comparing these two:

Qobuz & Local → Audrivana on a 2015 MacMini (i5/8 gig) → USB → Denifrips Aries

to

Qobuz & Local → Roon on RoonRoc (Dell i5/8 gig) → Lumin U1Mini → Coax → Denifrips Aries

Strangely whenever I try to use Audrivana with my Lumin within an hour or two I get issues and have to stop and sometime restart the Mac or the Lumin… so something is wrong in the UPnP/Plāys with Audirvāna, but USB into my DAC works fine.

I learned over much testing that I prefer no upsampling in Roon or Audrivana or in the Lumin, instead letting my Denifrips Aries DAC upsample everything to PCM 1411.2/PCM1536/DSD512

Before #ROONONLY the Audrivana had some clear advantages, especially when listening to bass. Now, the difference is much smaller, or goes back and forth between Roon and Audrivana.

Roon’s superior library management, ability to cast song & lyrics to my Sony TV, rock solid RoonRoc implementation (even through upgrades), plus all the music I browse into makes it amazing, and I am truly glad #ROONONLY closed the gap.

I will continue to rest Roon with my Lumin on #ROONONLY vs. Audrivana without the Lumin, but I think this is a keeper

Is your Lumin unit running Firmware 18.1 ?

I just did a factory reset and verified it is at 18.1

  1. Audrivana UpnP over WiFi is now working without dropouts (thankfully), but the progress bar doesn’t;t work well, and control (stop, pause, skip, change to another track) isn’t very reliable. So, I switched back to USB
  2. Roon Raat works flawlessly, and I even moved it to another room, and is still works flawlessly

I will continue to test Audrivana/USB/Denifrips vs. Roon/Raat-IP/Denifrips in #RoonOnly mode to see if there is any advantage (anymore) to Audrivana (other than the $15/month vs. $6/month) – because Roon kicks Audrivanas a$$ in everything except finding Qobuz playlists others have published

As always @wklie - you are awesome at representing Lumin and Roon, helping audiophiles in need like the Knight Bus in HP

As with Roon server, I only test Audirvana Windows on a wired network. Please connect your MacBook to LAN.

Hi Peter,
in Roon Only mode on the Lumïn X1, can one utilize either the analogue output or the USB without reconfiguration?

I can’t find any info on setting the output mode in the online manual…

Since configuration is done using Lumin app, but in Roon Only mode Lumin app is not usable, so your configuration change is not possible in Roon Only mode.

Hello Peter,

I’m new here but arrived by Google search.

Like the some posts from other members above, I have trouble factory resetting the device which stuck at logo screen despite I press 20 sec reset button and then operation button.

Could you guide me please how I can solve the situation?

I hav indications from a non-tech friend that claims his X1 is set to Roon Only mode, and he can also use Qobuz Connect?
This does not make sense to me, and i assume it’s a “behind-the-keyboard” misunderstanding?

If truly in Roon Only mode, Qobuz Connect cannot be used - Qobuz app will not see the device at all. I retested this behavior.

Thank you, as suspected this was a misunderstanding. He had entered a similar, not correct name in the Lumin Name-field, and assumed he had set #ROONONLY mode.
This was not true, and he had only changed it’s host name!
