Lumin P1 Mini – HDMI Pass Through

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping other P1 Mini owners may be able to help with what appears to be an unresolved HDMI pass-through issue.

My P1 Mini has always performed flawlessly as an audio streamer. A few months ago I purchased a Panasonic TV and intended to connect my Blu-ray player to the P1 Mini’s HDMI input, with the HDMI output then feeding the television. Based on the published functionality, this should simply pass the video signal through.

Unfortunately, no video output reaches the TV.

Following discussions with Lumin via this forum, I was advised to try alternative HDMI cables in case of compatibility issues. I followed that advice and tested several high-quality cables (at a cost of around £100), but the behaviour remained exactly the same.

The unit was then returned to the UK distributor for investigation. After carrying out the same tests, they experienced exactly the same problem. To eliminate the possibility of a fault unique to my unit, they repeated the tests using their own demonstration P1 Mini and obtained the same result, again, no HDMI video output.

Lumin have advised that units tested at their own facility operate correctly and that they have been unable to reproduce the problem.

This leaves an interesting question. If two independent UK units exhibit identical behaviour while other units apparently function normally, could there be an undiscovered issue affecting a particular production batch, an early hardware revision, a firmware interaction, or a compatibility issue that has simply not yet been identified?

At present I have been without my P1 Mini for over three months while investigations continue, so I’m keen to gather some real-world feedback from other owners.

If you own a P1 Mini, would you be willing to perform a simple test?

  • Connect a video source (Blu-ray player, media player, etc.) to the P1 Mini’s HDMI input.

  • Connect the P1 Mini’s HDMI output to your TV.

  • Confirm whether the video signal passes through successfully.

  • If possible, please include your TV model, source device, firmware version and, if you know it, approximately when your P1 Mini was purchased.

Positive results are just as valuable as negative ones, as they may help determine whether this is an isolated issue or one affecting a specific group of units.

Many thanks in advance to anyone willing to help.

I’m probably just repeating something already tried, but, you are using the ARC port on the TV and verified that the HDMI-CEC is enabled in your TV’s settings menu.

Thanks for the thought Daniel, yes, cec & correct HDMI ports, multiple leads of varing standards tried to no avail. Hopefully the distributor can get some sensible suggestions from Lumin and a route to a fix. :folded_hands:

My P1 mini is now on route to Hong Kong as distributors demo machine exhibited the same problems and Lumin weren’t able to offer a reason why the HDMI pass through wouldn’t work on either machine. It’s looking like a hardware or firmware problem, I’ve now been without my machine for nearly four months, needless to say I’m not impressed with the lack of comment, from Lumin via the distributor (The distributor has been very supportive).
