M4 as a remote

Long time Roon user. I have a mac mini M2 as my dedicated Roon core. Just got an M4 as my my personal computer . I have an Apple Display which has a pretty good audio setup through the M4. Im wondering if I can use this M4 as a remote so I can listen to my Roon library in my office. Not sure if this is possible and couldn’t find the answer.

Thanks for your help!

Of course you can!

First install Roon, launch it and select your M2 server when prompted, then check out Settings - Audio and enable your M4.

Should be straight forward, really - just give it a try and come back in the unlikely event of getting stuck along the way.

Thank you for the quick response. Just to be clear:

Go to the Roon website and launch the Mac IOS software.

Put in all my credentials and choose the M2 as my Core/server.

Go to settings, select audio and than highlight the M4

Does sound pretty easy. Im getting the M4 in about a week so I wanted to get it together to accomplish this…

Thank you again and Happy 4th

In short, you can use as many control devices as you want with your Roon Server. (These can be Roon on Macs, iPhones, iPads, Windows, Android phones & tablets). Just install & start Roon on each and choose the existing Roon Server when prompted. The only thing is that all the Roon devices must be on the same network.

A cool additional feature. If you go to Device Setup for the M4 machine and turn off Private zone, you can even treat the M4 as a controllable device, so you could use your phone to control playback while sitting across the room from your Mac setup.

I’ve enabled the little connected DAC to my Windows NUC as an endpoint in Roon. It will work exactly the same way on your new M4.

It will show up between any other enpoints you might have enabled. In my case my Samsung soundbar system in the living room and three streamers).

You can play music from any connected remote directly to your M4. I’m normally using my iPad or iPhone to control Roon at home.
