Mac backup to external drive

Roon Core Machine

I am trying to backup Roon to external drive on my new iMac but cannot fathom how to find the external address so that I can populate the Network share Location that is asked for when first setting up Roon Backup. If someone can help, I would be very grateful.

The ext drive to your Mac is not a network drive as it’s a local drive; therefore a network share path is not available.

I may stand corrected. Let the comments commence.

I’m interested too as I have an external drive locally connected to my Mac-mini and would like to do same.

You set a folder on the drive as a share. Then any other pc on the network can access it.

Daniel,
I just successfully followed the instructions. Perhaps the FAQ could be modified to additionally include the words and/or watched backup folder? The OP specifically wanted to backup Roon data. Of course I now realise the configuration is same.
Thanks for help in this matter. Lawrence - good luck!

Hey @lawrence_Baker,

I wanted to check in on this thread to see if @Rugby’s reply helped?

I’ll be on standby for your reply :+1:

Hi guys; the above instructions somehow do not work for me. They seem to relate to an earlier MacOS and I am running Ventura 13.01.1. I have successfully created a network share tied to my Mac user name so can back up to my internal drive no problem. But I’d like ALSO to be able to create a back up to one of my several external drives connected which show up in Finder.

Appreciate any advice/commands needed. I have enabled all of the sharing with in System. Settings. Thx

thanks everyone for the help. Just managed to set it up on an external drive following the instructions. Much relief. Very appreciated, thank you.
