Mac Mojave vs Roon

I keep seeing the occasional topic on Mac operating systems. Well mine doesn’t
work correctly I have tried to go into the Privacy Settings to no avail
I have downloaded your software at least 10 time and it still won’t work.
I think my setup is pretty simple ( iMac 5k to a NetGear interface to a Meridian 218 to modified D-6000’s )
It actually worked during early Mojave beta builds, but when Mac finalized their software…KaBoom
Any and all help would be appreciated
Thanks

what do you mean by “doesn’t work correctly”: symptoms are… ?

I appreciate you reaching out, @David_Grusin!

Can you give a little more info here about what you’re experiencing? Is Roon starting up at all? Can you confirm that you have the latest version of Roon installed?

Thanks!

Hi Thanks for prompt reply…To answer your questions
Roon is not starting at all, The Roon blurb comes up and then shuts down
I have whatever your website recommends for OS X

Is Roon listed as follows under Privacy?

Also, can you confirm that you have downloaded Roon not Roon Server?

Thanks again for the reply
Security and Privacy are configured correctly as the Roon app
It says Roon.dmg
111.8MB
occupying 255.MB on disc
Hope this helps…

Sure that you actually installed Roon? The .dmg is the disk image from which you have to extract the Roon.app and place it into your application folder.

When you double click on Roon.dmg it should open and you see something like this:

Drag Roon onto Application; afterwards add Roon to the allowed apps under Accessibility as @Martin_Webster described above. That should do it.

Update: the file size (111.8 MB) seems to be correct for the full Roon package.

Hi OK stripped all other signs of roon off my computer downloaded new version and did everything
Has not worked though any other ideas???

Seems like there aren’t enough data points available (yet) to come up with something useful. :frowning:

Do you see anything probably related in the logs (either in Console - especially when Roon tries to launch - or in the Roon logs if they happen to get written at all)?
Any “guarding” software you’re running which may block Roon from starting up?
There were reports here that certain GPUs may cause problems too. I don’t know what the 5k iMac uses for graphics.

Hi sorry to keep bugging you …
Here is the graphic card AMD Radeon R9 M395 2048 MB
What do you by guarding software could you giving some examples…
Thanks in advance

You could try to launch Roon from the command line. This usually reveals slightly more on what is going on.

  1. Open Finder > Applications > Utilities.
  2. Double click on ‘Terminal’.
  3. Enter the following command and press Enter:
    /Applications/Roon.app/Contents/MacOS/Roon
  4. Report back the output of the command.

As a reference, this is my output:

You can find the latest logs at ~/Library/Roon/Logs. See if there’s anything suspicious going on in Roon_log.txt

Thanks again…

Additional firewall software (Little Snitch shouldn’t be a problem, but there are others) and / or antivirus / antimalware software which could interfere with application launch. But it’s rather far fetched I admit - also because I understand Roon worked for you with Mojave beta releases.

Hey @David_Grusin,

Thanks for the additional information here. As u_gee mentioned above, if there are any antivirus or firewall software active on the Core machine I would try temporarily disabling them and seeing if there is any change.

So we can move forward with our troubleshooting, I was hoping for now you could use the directions found here and send us over a set of logs using a shared Dropbox link.

Thanks!

I just updated my iMac 5K and had the same problem. The update had unchecked Roon from security and privacy. So even though the entry was there it was no longer selected. Checking the box solved the problem. Strangely, with an identical system with a non-5K iMac did not have this issue.

I have an iMac 5K running Mojave and Roon without issue. Been running for two weeks.

I had this too, but last update screwed it up
I was on the the phone with Apple for 45minutes and asked me
to go back to Roon . They don’t fool around with other vendors…

I am at my wits end It will not work…

Hey @David_Grusin,
