I installed roon server on NAS QNAP TS251A but when I go to enable the devices it sees my MAGNETAR UDP800 MKII but it does not let me enable it because it says that for this device there is a problem because the manufacturer of the device has not completed the certification
It’s showing as certified on the Partner page, so it should work. Have you got the latest firmware installed in it?
Yes, the installed firmware is the latest one, from December 2025. The strange thing is that I performed an initial installation of the server and it saw the device as HD Ready certified, but then I had to redo the installation because the SSD HD was not formatted correctly and after reinstalling the server, it sees the device as not certified. While all the other devices, like the Wi-Fi Ultra, are seen correctly and I was able to enable them.
Hello @Marco_Cacioli,
Thank you for reaching out to Roon Support.
It appears that Magnetar has updated advertisement and now lists this device simply as MAGNETAR UDP800, rather than MAGNETAR UDP800 MKII. This naming change caused the discrepancy you noticed.
We’ve already escalated this to our partners team so they can align the device listing and ensure everything is displayed correctly going forward.
Please let us know if you notice anything else that doesn’t look right.
Thanks for your reply. The second problem is that, even though I leave the NAS always on, after a while the ROON server goes into hibernation and is not visible on my smartphone. To see it again, I have to go to the NAS app center, deactivate the server, and then reactivate it. The server is definitely inactive after the night. As per the instructions, the NAS has two 3TB RAID 1 hard drives and a 111GB USB SSD on which I installed the ROON server library. I’d like the server to remain permanently on, like the NAS.
Hello @Marco_Cacioli,
From the Roon side there is no hibernation or sleep mechanism — Roon Server is designed to run continuously. What you’re experiencing is being controlled entirely by the QNAP operating system, not by Roon.
On QNAP systems this behavior is usually caused by one of the following:
- System sleep / hibernation settings
- USB disk power-saving (your 111 GB USB SSD can be put to sleep)
- Container or app auto-suspension
- Energy-saving policies applied to background services
When QNAP suspends the storage or the service, RoonServer is stopped or becomes unreachable, which is why it disappears from your phone until you manually restart it in App Center.
We recommend checking the following on your QNAP:
- Control Panel → System → Power → Power Management
- Disable system sleep and hibernation
- Control Panel → Hardware → Disk / USB power saving
- Disable spindown for both HDDs and the USB SSD
- App Center → Roon Server
- Make sure auto-stop / energy-saving options are disabled
Since this is specific to QNAP’s power management and application lifecycle, if the behavior persists, QNAP support would be the right place to confirm why the Roon service is being suspended overnight.
Once QNAP stops suspending the service or the USB disk, Roon Server will remain online 24/7 as expected.
Thank you for your attention. After installing the new firmware, the MAGNETAR is now certified.
I checked the NAS settings and they should be fine. So far, it has only suspended once. Unfortunately, however, when I listen to music, the MAGNETAR freezes. The playback screen disappears and the default screen appears when you turn it on. This often happens at irregular intervals.
Keep in mind that the NAS isn’t nearby, but about 7 meters away in another room. I checked the router connection by restarting it, but there was no change. I tried turning the magnetar off and on. I also tried stopping and restarting the Roon server.
Hi @Marco_Cacioli,
Thanks for the update, and I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing a new issue after the Magnetar is properly certified.
For a next step in troubleshooting, please reproduce the issue and share the specific track name the next time you experience a freeze, and share that information here.
From there, we’ll enable diagnostics and take a closer look behind the scenes. We’ll be monitoring for your reply and response!
Hi @Marco_Cacioli,
If you’re experiencing continued disruptions to playback or any device discovery problems with your Zones, we can certainly assist.
To equip our team to troubleshoot most effectively, can you please provide:
-
a timestamp of the latest dropout (or the name of the track that dropped out)
-
a list of any network equipment that sits between the Magnetar and the RoonServer seven meters away (including network switches, access points, mesh nodes, second routers, etc).
-
the make/model of the primary router serving your RoonServer.
We’ll watch for your reply and work from there. Thank you!
Hi, I performed another firmware update Thursday evening that the Magnetar found available, and finally there are no more interruptions and music playback is working properly.
The Roon server on the NAS has also stopped hanging and is still running.
Thanks for your help. See you soon.
