Marantz Cinema Line [HEOS] - When is it Roon Ready?

I’m trying to use Roon with my Marantz CINEMA 40. The option to use device volume is the default and what I’d like to use but when I try to access the volume slider it says fixed volume. I wasn’t sure if the volume can be controlled by the AVR dial or remote only and not the Roon but I’m afraid to give it a try and damage my speakers. Has anyone else encountered this and found a solution?

Edit: Figured it out. I had to toggle the red power button above the “Volume control is fixed” line, even though the AVR was turned on. Is that something you have to do every time you want to stream music?

IIRC the amp has a default starting volume (with “last volume” as an option but with a max in case last volume was 100%). I don’t see the problem?

Oh yes, I see that now. So if I just start playing music, the device will power on and activate the volume I choose (either last volume or a default starting volume)? Thank you for your reply.

Yes. The only “oddity” is that if the amp is already on but on a different input then Roon will see it as off even though it’s not. In that scenario hitting play will “turn on” which really means auto-switch inputs and the volume should remain the same as it already was.

Awesome. I really appreciate your help!

Hello folks,

Is there someone here able to reproduce 2ch DSD in pure mode?

I’ve configured my Cinema 50 as endpoint (Roon Ready), but there is a conversion from DSD to PCM.

Are there specific configuration to be done on the Marantz AVR?

just as addendum: the AVR and the HEOS app are reporting signal DSD :frowning:

Thanks for your support,
Andrea

I checked on Roon with my Dell AVR-A1H and it reports PCM conversion regardless of mode. Meanwhile, the HEOS app shows it as DSD. As someone in above thread noted, AVR DSP for room correction, etc. requires PCM. Pure mode may shut off that processing but not the conversion. The HEOS app showing DSD is just showing the input file type; at least the RAAT stack gets a bit more feedback from the HEOS core!

You might give Marantz feedback but I’m guessing they always internally convert to PCM so nothing can be done.

That device uses the TI PCM5102A DAC Chip, which does not play DSD.

unfortunately this is the point :frowning: same DAC for Cinema 40/50 and Denon 3800/4800
