Not strictly a Roon issue but there are so many learned people here
I have tried ConverseDigital’s mConnect to control Tidal and my Local (DNLA ugh) library to my Cambridge Audio CXN (V1) on both iOS (iPad Mini 2, iPad Pro 12.9 (2020) and Android (Samsung Tab A 7in) devices
I can’t for the life of me get it to run Gapless on all these devices despite all the settings and the info on their website saying it supports Gapless. I have 2 other remotes apps running fine, so it all points to the mConnect. I have repeatedly contacted their Support team and am getting nowhere.
Has anyone used this app and did you have similar issues ?
It wont do gapless. This is why UPnP sucks big time. It’s so fragmented that even a standard feature of gapless playback can not be achieved across devices and apps.
Do you mean mConnect won’t do it or DLNA /uPnP in general ?
I don’t have the hang up on DLNA that many do, I have a Cambridge Audio CXN Renderer running from JRiver DLNA Server and it runs fine and has for 7 years hence my lack of DLNA oddities which people report. From what I hear I guess I’m just lucky in my choices.
My query was around mConnect specifically, I use the CA StreamMagic app and JRemote to control the system and get gapless no issue but I can’t get gapless when controlling from mConnect . Its odd as I wouldn’t expect the control app to have any influence
Both are flakey for it. Never had much luck with DNLA/ UPnP at all with different devices. Naim Atom is the only one it has worked on with out issues and does gapless, but it would only do gaplesss with their own app for a long time till they added support for others.
Each manufacturer implementation of it is always different, they support something’s but not others, my experience follows very true to Danny’s pet hates of it. I do understand it works well for some kit, but when you start to mix and match it can easily fall apart.
Mconnect is a flakey app in general, could never get gapless to work across any device and it uses to loose my devices all the time.
The only ones I got to work more reliably was bubble upnp and Lumin.
We natively support OpenHome (that corrects some flaws of UPnP) in addition to UPnP, RAAT, AirPlay, etc.
It’s possible to do gapless in UPnP, but the render hardware has to support it - many do not. Lumin hardware supports gapless UPnP from JRiver or Audirvana, even if the latter do not support OpenHome.
