I can’t get my Meridian 218 to show up on my system output in the roon app. I have tried on a Mac M1 and Mac intel, but the only system output I see is the Macs internal speakers. I can see the 218 on the Meridian app so I know it is connected to the same network. Please advise how I can get the app to find and connect to my 218, as without this I can’t use roon. Thanks!
Describe your network setup
MacBook Pro, intel (and tried m1) for the roon app. Meridian 218 as the connection to Meridian 5200 speakers. 218 connected directly to my modem and is recognised as correctly connected to the network on the Meridian app.
You’ll similarly need to enable local network access on the Mac itself.
Regardless of whether it’s on an Intel or Silicon Mac, if you are running MacOS 15.x (Sequoia), you will need to grant Roon local network permissions in Privacy & Security → Local Network.
Sequoia will otherwise interfere with device discovery on a Mac-hosted RoonServer machine.
Thanks both - on the Meridian app is was already on and my mac roon was selected, but roon server was not. I have now selected both roon and roon server on my Mac local network, but still not the roon app is not discovering. I also have apple airplay available on the network and this is not showing up either - only the local mac as the system output - if that helps… any more suggestions?
Hi @sjfello,
From our records 2 hours ago we saw a mac server from your account with the Meridian 218 showing up. The server was named “simons-New-MacBook-Pro”. Is this a different Mac then the one you’ve been trying to connect with?
The MacBook Air still only shows the local outputs.
Thanks for the response. Yes, the new MacBook Pro is the one I have been adjusting. I have also tried with an air and an older MacBook. Good to know you are seeing something… but from my side I still am not… what should I do next?
If device announcement is intermittent or failing with two separate protocols (Meridian and Airplay), the underlying network likely isn’t forwarding multicast traffic correctly.
Have you reinstalled and restored a Backup or RoonServer on this Mac at any point recently? According to our diagnostic servers, two active RoonServer instances are on the same machine, one of which has no LAN IP address but can reach the Meridian.
How is your RoonServer machine connecting to the internet? Do you have multiple routers or a mesh network? What about managed switches? Please list the equipment between the Mac, the Meridian, and the internet.
Do you have any additional security installed on this Mac or on the network, like third-party antivirus or firewall software?
Hi, thanks again for your response… please where possible write in a way I can understand…. Your first paragraph was written for a technician rather than a customer who simply wants to listen to some music. I have plugged my Mac directly into the modem and can now see and use Apple TV with the roon app… but still not the 218.
I don’t believe I have anything out of the ordinary regarding security on my Mac air, which you will see I used to connect some minutes ago. So now both my Mac and 218 are connected directly to the same router which in turn is connected directly to the modem (I think that is the correct terminology). Please let me know what I should try next.
Can you please share a screenshot of your Roon Settings → Audio page? According to diagnostics, it looks like the Meridian is not activated as an audio zone. You can also try a full reinstall of Roon with the below instructions, this may help clear the system up:
Let’s try a fresh database and see if your issues persist:
Thanks for that - the 218 is not showing at all on the Roon Settings → Audio page, apple tv and my mac are - but not the 218. I followed the instructions renaming and reinstalling and got the following:
Hi again - some progress. I logged on to my other mac and got the backup - so i can log in now no problem with my mac air. While i was on the other device i tried again to find the 218 and it did! (tried this originally and it didn’t). Thats’s the good news! However, back on my air - which i need to use for roon - i don’t see the 218… i went through the rename etc on the air and all is working fine - just not seeing the 218. Looking forward to your response and thanks again.
Update. 218 has again vanished from my Mac, decided I am spending too much time trying to get some music playing so I will cancel roon and find an alternative. Thanks for your efforts!
