Metadata, file tags

Hi, asking for a friend who is interested in Roon.

Is it possible to import, if you new to Roon, all your albums (classical, classic rock) that Roon shows ONLY the file tags and no metadata from the own Roon database?

Thanks.

Short answer: no, not really.

That’s not how Roon wants to work. I think that’s why there’s no switch to set identification and matching to Roon cloud data to off. In theory, if the communication to metadata servers gets blocked, no identification can happen - but when Roon’s denied the ability to process metadata and do the matching it’s programmed to do, the experience will be (quite) limited. Not recommended for a new or any other user, I suppose.

Also, while it’s possible to unidentify albums, you cannot do this in bulk mode. For more than just a few albums it won’t help – also, certain metadata Roon had already gathered from the cloud may stick to the library anyway.

If Roon has additional (or different) metadata it will use them. Read also:

Hi @erho

Thanks for submitting your friend’s question regarding how Roon handles metadata! I’d be happy to explain this a bit more.

In settings>library>import settings they can set preferences for which metadata tags are preferred for their local files, the file tags or Roons.

However, as @BlackJack and @anon47919701 mentioned, some of our own metadata is going to appear, such as artist’s bio, recommended albums, etc. Thanks again!
