It says my metadata is paused I think it has been like that for months.
Also I’ve not been able to do any backups for about a year I don’t know how. I’ve been told how but don’t understand how it wants me to choose where to put them I don’t know how to do that. I didn’t understand the instructions.

While the question you have is about the “metadata is paused” sounds like it should be under the metadata section, it really should be under general support as metadata in support means actual meta data issues like a Frank Sinatra album being credited to the Sex Pistols.
I’m going to move the post there, but, the first thing support will need is for you to describe the PC you are using for the RoonCore, Make / mOdel, Operating system, etc.
Now that being said, I do have a couple of comments.
“my meta data is paused” can usually be fixes by rebooting your Core. That happens when there is a network miscommunication between the Core and the Servers in the Cloud.
“I didn’t understand the instructions.” Is the page below what you were referring to? If not, give it a read.
