Saw this story yesterday and thought the group might be interested. The general idea of metadata as a dumpster fire has been discussed in many threads, with a primary focus on our ability to catalog and organize our music collections. Sounds like the impact is further reaching than that!

Interesting article but surprised that MusicBrainz wasnt even mentioned, if artists ensured their songs were in musicbrainz and then just added a musicbrainz recording id to their songs that could be a huge step forward towards solving this.
