· Question about migrating Roon Core from late 2013 iMac to new Nucleus One.

Instructions indicate it is "mandatory" that both devices be fully updated but this is unlikely to be possible on the iMac. I plan to put a current backup on a USB device and all my music is stored on the iMac's hard drive in monitored folders.

Is the inability to update the iMac going to prevent a successful migration to the Nucleus (which I have ordered but not yet received)?

Tell us about your home network

· I have Verizon FIOS using a CR1000a router. Not currently using any extenders or mesh network. I will be able to connect the Nucleus One via an Ethernet cable. Music files will need to be transferred over the home network. No VPN

Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report!

Based on the iMac registered as your current Roon Server, it looks like you’re running the latest version of Roon and Roon Server, so you don’t have anything to worry about there!

Congrats on the Nucleus purchase by the way! It’s a game-changer moving over to a dedicated server. :raising_hands:

Thanks Benjamin. I’m excited, but nervous (I’m always nervous about technical stuff)

My concern is that it’s not unlikely that I won’t receive the Nucleus until the new release goes live, and I won’t be able to update the iMac. Will that change matters.

@benjamin Now that my Nucleus One has been shipped it’s clear it will arrive next week, after the update (I’ve disabled auto-update on my iMac and all of my remote devices). I’ve save a current Roon update onto a USB drive.

Since I will be unable to install the “current” Roon operating system on my iMac, is this going to create any problems for me? My music files are in “watched” folders on the iMac.

Appreciate any guidance/reassurance/strategy you can offer.

Hi @Stephen_Garrison,

As long as you have a saved backup or two of your current Roon database, you shouldn’t have any issues during migration.

Here is a KB article you can reference and follow once your Nucleus is online and active in your system:

As long as your Nucleus has access to the saved backup, you’ll be good to go!

Nucleus arrived this afternoon. I struggled with it all evening and, to my surprise, it seems to be working just fine. Drag-and-dropped downloaded files from the iMac and sent them over the network to Nuc Internal Storage, then deleted the old ‘watched files’. I think that’s where I’ll leave things for the time being. Pretty pleased, all in all.
