Migration from WS2012R2 to WS2016

Hi crew. I’ve been successfully running Roon to many varied endpoints using Windows 2012R2 running Audiophile Optimizer 2.20 in minimal server mode. I hear that folks like the sound improvement using Windows Server 2016 and I understand that AO 2.20 works with Roon running the server in core mode and that WASAPI is supported for Roon in this configuration.

Of course, I would like confirmation of these assumptions from the group.

Assuming I decide to make the switch, I want to ensure that the transition is smooth. I backup my Roon library every night to my NAS. Will that backup have all of the sound and endpoint settings, along with the music library data, such that I merely restore from the latest backup there when transitioning?

A related question is that I would like to image my entire W2012R2 server so that if things don’t go well, I could restore. I assume that the image backup, if any, within W2012R2 is not what I should use — although some of you may indicate otherwise — and so I would like a recommendation of the best way to backup. I assume that on to a USB stick is the preferred manner, but if I can image to my NAS, that might be nice if re-imaging from there to my server is okay to do and I’m not adding a bunch of networking complexity to accomplish if I wanted to revert back.

Thanks in advance for the input. Cheers. JCR
