Migration issue: new server unable to find backup (ref#LOW37N)

I am attempting to migrate my Roon server from a NUC8 to a NUC13 and when I try to restore the backup on the new server it keeps telling me it can’t find the backup. I followed the instructions. The only issue I can see is that the new and old servers are on different OS levels but I can’t get them to match.

Where did you save your backups? Have you established a connection to your new server machine?

Dropbox, Mac hard drive, USB drive, external hard drive, and they all say the same thing. I did the backup immediately before attempting to restore it and yes I established a connection to it. That’s where I’m getting the “backup not found” message.

Hi @Damon_Copeland,
Thanks for writing in to ask about this issue. I think the best way for us to begin troubleshooting is to take a look at your logs. Can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader?
Additionally are you having any trouble playing music to networked endpoints or accessing network storage?

I uploaded the server logs from the old one and the new one. I have no trouble whatsoever playing music from the old server or accessing network storage. I tried using a thumb drive with the fresh backups on it too and it gave me the same “backup not found” message as well.

Hey @Damon_Copeland,

Thanks for the update!

From the logs you sent over, we saw an error when attempting to access your backup location - Specifically, the error message:

invalid cifs path (post windowsization, missing third backslash): smb://drobo5n2

As a next step in testing, can you update the path in Roon to use the correct SMB format:

  • Change smb://drobo5n2 to \\drobo5n2
  • Ensure that the network share drobo5n2 is accessible and properly configured with the necessary permissions.
  • If required, include the shared folder name in the path, such as \\drobo5n2\Music

We’ll be on standby for your reply! :+1:

I have no idea what changed, if anything, but I just redid the backup and restore from the NAS and it worked this time. I hadn’t even change the path like you requested yet. It’s still saying “Backup not found” for my thumb drive and Dropbox though so there’s an issue somewhere. It seems to be working now… now of course my new NUC isn’t recognizing the drive with my music on it.

Hey @Damon_Copeland,

Are you able to provide some clarity on your current status?

Are you able to share the name of the drive, and it’s connection type?

It just made me reformat it (I already had the new server format it and then copied my music to it) and once I reformatted it and copied music back to it it started working again. I think the adventure is over!
