MiniDSP SHD still saying DSP volume even after updates. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I dont have sample rate conversion on. Its just doing this im not sure why.

That is miniDSP, not Roon. Roon is only the messenger. Do not shoot the messenger.

miniDSP SHD units convert all audio internally to 96 kHz sampling rate. Because that is the internal convolution operating rate.

Have you actually read the spec sheet and manual? And before I get criticized for being direct, I have a miniDSP SHD unit. Plus, I have read the spec sheet and manual.

Does your unit do the " high quality " little blue dots? I know it auto converts to 96 khz. Just not sure why it’s not the purple lossless dot.

Because it’s no longer lossless. You’re upconverting the sample rate and using DSP volume. But, it doesn’t matter. Lossless means nothing. How does it sound?

I just updated my SHD to get volume control through Roon and I have the green dot as well. It is like that until I turn the volume up to 0.0 on the SHD. All of my chromecast audios do this as well.

I am unable to discern any difference between using the SHD’s volume versus Roon’s, so I don’t mind the aggressive “green light mark down” of my audio path. Your system/hearing may be different, though.

The miniDSP SHD series of devices internally process all signals at 32 bits 96 kHz. It already receives the data in 32 bits from Roon (just learned that from miniDSP DevSupport). Apparently Roon sees upsampling in 32 bits as an improvement, but digital volume control with the same bit depth as a downgrade (probably technically correct). Nothing to worry about, though.

Btw never set the volume at 0 dB when using room correction. Dirac needs 6-10 dB of headroom to do its thing without clipping.

I can understand roon saying that there is upsampling going on in the signal path. But I can’t understand why the signal is coming through as “high quality” and not lossless. I also don’t understand why the volume control has to be DSP volume. I was thinking when it was upgraded to “roon ready” the option to get off DSP volume would be fixed. Maybe I’m just not smart enough to understand all this. I wish roon support could comment on this.

It’s not lossless, by definition, if the signal is being modified in any way. However, lossless does not necessarily sound better or as good as a signal that you have modified for one reason or another.

Can you not turn off DSP volume in Roon?

If you want Roon Support, post in the Support catagory.

Roon’s definition of lossless is that the bits read from source are processed at DAC without modification. Digital volume control isn’t lossless by that definition as you have to adjust the bits to present the new amplitude target.
