Missing Bose SoundTouch Speakers in Roon Setup (ref#1LVXNY)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

None of the above quite fits

· None of these quite match

· Dear Sirs and Madams

thank you for your message.

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble with your system detecting the speakers in the other rooms. To explain: We have a total of six Bose SoundTouch network speakers in our apartment: three Model 10s, one Model 20, one Wave Studio, and one Soundbar 300 with a subwoofer and satellite speakers. After installing Roon, only three speakers were detected: two Model 10s and the Soundbar 300. The other three are missing. It's strange that all the Model 10 speakers are identical and show no differences. Furthermore, all the speakers are on the network, so they should be visible, just not to Roon. I've tried several times to add the speakers by restarting them, including from the server, but without success.

Your software is exactly what I was looking for and would have bought immediately (around $900). However, since it doesn't work with the existing speakers in the other rooms, I've decided to cancel the test phase.

Of course, I would use or purchase their software again if the problem could be resolved. In the meantime, I had an IT expert here, but even he couldn't explain it, since their software has automated speaker detection.
Is it possible that my Bose SoundTouch isn't fully recognized by Roon? Or do I perhaps need some kind of add-on software from you, since I only use Android devices? My feedback might be helpful to you, as the Bose control app will be discontinued in the coming weeks, and I expect many people will be looking for a way to continue using their speakers, especially since they are quite expensive.
Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Check to see if the speakers not seen are set to use Airplay, and, that all the speakers are on the same network sub-net as the server and the speakers which are seen.

Hey @mamiti,

Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report! I believe what @Rugby has mentioned above is spot on for next steps in troubleshooting.

If your IT expert confirmed they are all on the same network subnet (e.g., all on 192.168.1.x), the issue is almost certainly that the missing speakers have AirPlay disabled or are an older hardware revision that doesn’t support it.

  • Check the Model 10s: Even if they look identical, one might be a Series II and the others Series III. Only the newer ones support AirPlay. Check the Bose app settings for each speaker to see if "AirPlay" is an option you can toggle on.
  • The Wave Studio & Model 20: These are often the culprits. If they are older "Series I" or "Series II" units, they lack the hardware for AirPlay. To Roon, they are essentially invisible without a middleman.
