Number of Tracks in Library

Description of Issue

On the N1 I have - for example - Two albums by 1 Giant Leap: ‘1 Giant Leap’ and ‘What about me?’ I can browse to the files and play them with Window 7 or Windows 10.

But Roon only acknowledges the existence of the ‘1 Giant Leap’ album. Either by searching for the title of clicking [Discography] under the artist (1 giant leap).

This happens a lot. I remember an album I know I have but Roon can’t access it. I’ve tried [Force Rescan] and [Clean up library]. The file doesn’t appear in [Skipped files].

Hi - have you checked the metadata within the files that Roon doesn’t see? MP3Tag is an excellent program to use.

Michael

It’s a FLAC file. [Properties] shows what I assume is the metadata. What am I looking for?

It’s a double album. Could that have anything to do with it?

Simply that artist, album, track and title fields correctly reflect the album. As I understand it, Roon works from the information within the files, rather than file or folder names.
If the properties box shows this information to be present, then the issue lies elsewhere. Double albums work fine in Roon. I have a great many.

Michael

Almost certainly. If you’ve ripped this double album, then check the metadata carefully. Very often, the ripping software does not put metadata or the folders into a format that Roon can identify.

Is this a ripped boxset (with 2 CDs)? If so, have you followed the guidelines for boxsets?

First check that you have the folders correctly named. E.g. the boxset folder is called (for example) What About Me and contains two subfolders CD1 and CD2 that contain the ripped tracks.

This album is not known to Qobuz, so it’s not appearing in the artists’ discography. If it’s not known to Roon, then Roon will use the metadata and the track and folder names to create the album entry in your Library. Then it’s even more important to follow the guidelines.

If the folder for ‘What about me?’ actually has a’?’ in it, try removing the ‘?’.

Roon sometimes silently skips folders because of special characters in folder of file names, as I found with an album that started with ‘…’.

It’s explained at the bottom of this section…

Thanks Geoff. That was the solution. Annoying though because the album was ripped directly into the Melco under roon control

Yes, I’m afraid that the ripping function in the Nucleus is not good at handling boxsets…
