I don’t know how this happened, but I mistakenly added a core to my Roon service. I also mistakenly “unauthorized” my historical core and now have only access to a few songs from my Mac mini, the incorrect new core.
How can I return to my old core and unauthorize this incorrect core.
Also: I have a lifetime membership and have run into this huge problem. IS IT POSSIBLE TO COMPLETELY LOG OUT OF THIS MEMBERSHIP AND SIGN UP FOR A NEW MEMBERSHIP WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY AGAIN?
You are free to authorize/unauthorize Roon Servers as often as you’d like, the only limit here is that there can only be one active one per license. To connect to the previous server, all you need to do is go to Roon Settings → General → Disconnect, and then select your desired server from the list. More information can be found here:
As for your membership question, Roon databases are tied to specific accounts (i.e. email address), you cannot use databases associated with a different email address with existing Roon databases. If you’d like to keep all the history/metadata edits/etc. that you have so far, you’ll need to continue to use the same email address you’ve been using.
Am I to understand that if I change my email address I cannot transfer my lifetime membership to the new email address? That seems ridiculous if it is true. I have invested so much money into this system, yearly memberships for quite a while and now a lifetime membership, that I should be entitled to change something without losing all of my investment.
None of the fixes people have suggested have worked and I can’t figure out how to unauthorized the only account I currently have. Once again, I have no idea how I formed this second account, but I have unauthorized my original one and cannot recover it until I unauthorized This mystery account.
It’s not a problem to swap the email address associated with your lifetime license - you can change the email address, as mentioned above here, by navigating to your Roon Account page in a web browser and changing the email address there. We can also tag the Accounts team if you’re continuing to have issues with updating email.
However, you can’t restore a Backup of a Roon database associated with one email address to a completely new account - this is the point my colleague clarified above.
Whether or not you can restore your old database depends on whether you have Roon Backups available from that database.
Based on your description and what we see in diagnostics associated with your account, you’ve inadvertently set up a completely fresh database on a Mac Mini, deauthorizing a database on a second machine. However, you’re still using the same email address with Roon, so unless you want to for external reasons, there’s no reason to set up a new Roon account. We simply need to restore a Backup of the old database after deauthorizing the accidental server.
Navigate to Settings → General in a Roon Remote and disconnect from the database on the Mac Mini. Then, do the following on the Mac mini:
I mistakenly added another server to my account, and now I can’t “unauthorized” it and recover my original one. I have a lifetime membership and can’t afford to switch to something other than Roon.
I just got my Wyred4sound music server back, and their techs had no trouble accessing my 900+ albums. Now back at home, I can’t access that server.
I left my email in so that I might be able to interact with people rather than through the Roon community.
The problem is I can’t get the original server even to show up when I open Roon; therefore, I can’t unauthorized one and use the other as the default server.
This is how the process should go if both servers are seen and running on your network.
You “should” be able to start Roon, go to “settings/General” and “logout” from the undesired server, and then “connect” to the desired server.
Logout from current server image:
You should see both servers listed (if not you need to make sure the desired server is “seen” on the network and running). Connect to the desired server:
If you do not see your desired server it means there is an issue on your network or on the device you are running the server on and need to correct the issue. Not knowing what devices you are using I can not say what the issue may be.
Where is the “original” (desired) server located? what device?
Where is the “new” (undesired) server located?
However, even if the second server cannot be found, it should still be possible to Unauthorize it prior to connecting to the new server, there should be a button for that. (E.g., people who have two servers in different locations routinely do this)
I will post screenshots, but no matter what I have done, the option to unauthorized never comes up. I have hit the disconnect button but then I can’t do anything after that.
The thing is, you don’t really need the disconnect button for the old server. When trying to connect to the new server, there should be a screen like this:
This even works if the old server is not accessible at all. People do this all the time. So if what you see is different, it would be helpful to know your exact steps and what you see.
No the wired for sound does not show up. How do I make sure roon is not running in the background? I’m an old guy and these things are mysteries to me.
