Mixed up Pedro Gonçalves

In my library, there are 2 Pedro Gonçalves mixed up.
One is member of Dead Combo band.

but it’s not credited in none of my dead combo albums except one

The second one is this one, i ignore who he is:

and he’s erroneously credited in all my Dead Combo albums.

Hi @Niccolo_Terzi. I’m honestly not sure what action item I have here.

What – specifically – is wrong and on which album(s).

What needs to be put right? Note: we can’t provide “missing” metadata.

Note: as I’m sure you are aware, we don’t use Discogs, so referencing them doesn’t really help me.

Hi @joel
I know you don’t use Discogs, but sometimes it helps.

Anyway, in this specific case i guess that roon metadata do not contain credits for the Dead Combo albums (i should check…)
They are present in my file metadata, in particular Pedro Gonçalves.
Basically, roon associates my files tags to the wrong Pedro Gonçalves.

This thing happens…
As i have reported many times, it happens even when there is an artist name in roon metadata, and the same name in file tags… but there are 2 (or more) artists with the same name: in that case, roon add a second artist besides the (correct) one in its metadata.

As i write… i have a feature suggestion. a “Wrong artist?” button.
When you look at the credits, and see a wrong artist association, you can change all references in the album to that artist, pointing to another one present in the library.
So… a shortcut to all this (impossible set of) operations:

  1. edit album, go to credits, delete the wrong artist/role
  2. add (at album level) the correct artist with the same roles
  3. select all the tracks, and go to the edit section, delete the wrong artist/role
  4. add (at track level) the correct artist with the same roles. as different tracks can have different roles, this has to be done track by track.

Do you think this would be possible?

I’m actually not sure exactly what the Roon Server does here as the code was written a very long time ago. I agree that sometimes the “best guess” code, which matches ambiguous file tag artists to other artists in the library, does not always get it right and, in some cases, cannot always get it right. I’ll discuss this with the team, but I don’t think that there will be an easy fix.

Yes @joel,
I’m sure that in some cases, for obscure albums lacking of metadata, the “best guess” match is impossible.
If I am not wrong, when i first started using roon, when the match of file tags was ambiguous, the software used to create a new artist (i.e. not present in roon metadata), exactly as it happens when file tags contain a completely unknown artist. in this scenario, i used very often to merge these “new artists” with the correct one eventyally present in the library.
At a certain point, roon evolved, and the “best guess” became i think more sensitive… so i think that now it tries always a match, even in ambiguous cases.

but in the end, complete and perfect metadata do not exist, and will not …
so it would be nice to have a reasonable way to correct wrong matches on users side.
