Description of Issue

I am moving and shutting down my current network. Would someone direct me to the FAQ that reminds me how to take the core down - and move the core from one device to another.

Unfortunately, I won’t have WiFi access for a while. I suppose there is no way to work Roon with a phone hot spot??

Thanks,

Mike

We would need a little more info on where your core is located. Is it actually moving to a new device or is the device and network just moving to a new house?

In my case I just moved to a new house and all I did was unplug all my network devices then plug them in at the new house (went from cable/modem internet in one town to fiber/ethernet in the new town). As long as the “network” and WiFi are the same it should just work, like it did for me. I use an Eero mesh network as the router and WiFi Access points so it was plug and play (I also had reservations set in the router for Roon and my NAS so they got assigned the same IPs).

As far as using a phone hotspot, it depends on where the core and what you are controlling roon with.
I would not expect great performance using a phone hot spot.

Thanks.
I have the core running on a NUC. I am moving out of state and I would like to put my NUC on the new network when I get there. Sounds like I just need to plug it into the new network and I should be good to go. I just want to make sure that I don’t need to gracefully exit the current network by de-configuring something.

Michael does your current Nuc run Rock?
If so just go to the web page and shut it down.

You might want to check if it is running DHCP or has s static address first, just to make it easier to plug into your new router and network.

Thanks. Yes, it is running ROCK. And yes, it seems to be running DHCP. I assume that shutting it down is just a matter of hitting the red power button in the upper right hand corner.

Absolutely so try it first and then start it until you are ready to move

I’ve done several Roon demos on the road. To get Roon working while on the go, I purchased this travel router:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GBXMBQF/

Provides a wired connection for Core and one or two wired Output devices. I connected my LG V35 phone to the USB type A port on the front. This enabled me to tether the travel router to my phone for Internet access.

This tiny travel router also provides a Wi-Fi network, so I could use my tablet and laptop as Control devices. It’s a pretty brilliant solution if you need something temporary and later when you’re traveling.

Yup. When that’s not convenient, I just do a short-press of the power button on the NUC itself. As far as I can tell, this also does a clean shutdown.

Hey @Michael_Van_Woert,

I am so relieved to see our community being a community, especially in a case like this one where we missed your post for so long. Please, accept my sincere apologies.

Since it’s been quite some time since the conversation took place, I wanted to check in and see if moving your Core went well  . Can we help with anything?

Thanks. All set
